SAS opinions

5.0 won't be an immediate thing following the sas. Unless the 4.0 dies.

Here's my current plan from the info I've gathered

Buy a parts xj. Strip the needed front end parts. Part out rest of jeep and hopefully make money selling individual parts vs as a whole (will take longer but more $$)

Rebuild d30 with 4.88's and chromoly shafts etc. Truss it, maybe sleeve it?

Throw 4.88's in my 8.8 torsen rear, chevy 64" leafs re arched for lift 6400 shackles. Hopefully no block at all.

Probably stick with open up front and leave the torsen out back. MAYBE switch to an e locker out back.

I won't have to switch my tcase out right? Just a new front driveshaft?

I know I said 37/38's in the original post, but honestly 35's MAYBE 36's would easily work for me.

I'd also be hoping to stick close to 15+ mpg highway. Is that a realistic goal if I ran 35's and 4.88?

I'm seeing 17 or so strictly highway right now with 4.10 and 33.

Uhhhhh this is starting to sound pricey lol. Better start saving.

95-99 XJ.
High pinion. Larger ujoint shafts.

If you keep your gear to tire ratio the same, it shouldn't change much on your MPG's

depending on how high of a lift youre wanting your COG is going to be off on normal width axles if its too high regardless. im getting ready to do a FW 44/9 combo... and im keeping it a LCOG. ill be running fullwidth axles with 4-5" of lift and 36-38s.

i think if you went ahead and did fullwidth axles youd be happier in the long run

Not doing full widths unless I get another skinny rig. I'm not doing major wheeling here where I need crazy stability.

The wheeling I do/will do could be done with a 4" super lift. I'd rather spend that money towards an sas is all.

people with IFS blazers wheel in some of the spots i would be looking to wheel in. so its not any thing hardcore at all. i do live on the praries after all lol.

So I can get a 95 xj parts truck that was running in the summer for $550. May still run.

This be a good buy if its in decen enough shape.

check it out, if its not in need of all of the consumable parts it might be a decent way to get what you want.

but with what you have described locally with the blazers i would cut the fenders and just run 35's for playing around and 33's for the road. probably hardly have any issues.

but what fun is that? i want a solid axle lol. a solid axle will definately open up more areas, but yes i COULD get by with the IFS setup.

im going to see how much cash i have after working overtime this weekend. and will go check it out if i have the cash. not going to bother if i dont. no sense wasting his time and mine. what are things I should look for if i do look at it

If you have a ttb front putting d44 outers is a good cheap option That will do what you're talking about doing. Don't knock an independent front it can go places a weaker solid axle can't just from traction alone.

he has sla.

a ttb 44 swap would be cool though....i been seriously contemplating a ttb rig again.

there are a few competitive events i been looking at, and i think a ttb doing well would stir up enough shit to make it worth the effort.

I ride with jeep guys so TTB was a must for me lol

Glad you like my truck. The Dana 30 is perfect for a budget build and a daily driver. Been 5 years with no major problems besides wheel bearings.

Another key thing, I like going fast down rutted pot hole filled gravel roads. Can I set the suspension up to handle this kind of driving, yet not be all squishy and soft for daily driving?
