Still looking for some help here guys if anyone has anything to add let me know. I honestly belive that the oil pump has just lost it's prime Ive never had to deal with this before and little insight on exactly how to do that would be a life saver.

So you didn't prime the lifters before installing them? How many minutes have you ran the engine? Oil pumps don't have to be primed, and they don't lose their prime. As long as the pump is in oil it picks it up.
Do the lifters shut up when the engine is running at rpm? Then at Idle they speak up? If so you must have a major internal oil leak.

The engine wasent a rebuild I got it from a junk yard it only has 63k miles on it. I honestly think it has just sat for awhile without oil in it and needs to be primed I am going to try and do it tonight.

Ok so we tried the priming of the oil pump and it didnt work. We then let it sit ideling and the ticking stopped still not registering any oil pressurd. Then we ran it for a minute and the ticking came back so im lost please help guys if you have any suggestion anything wil help.

Did you pull the distributor to check the shaft and make sure it wasn't broken. If not, do that and then do what MTNRGR said.

Yea it is the 01 like I said it went away for a min then came back so i have no idea Im at my wits end witht his thing just want to get it going. Thanks for the replys guys anything is helpful.

Dump oil in the top of each valve cover and see if it goes away.

Ok so I used a hand pump and put the hose in the threaded hole where the oil filter goes on. With the plugs removed I turned over the engine and pumped the hand pump with oil and I got the oil pressure guarge to go to normal so i reinstalled everything and still no oil pressure. I belive that the oil pump might be bad because on the hand pump it registerd oil pressure. Any imput would e helpful thanks.

Houston....we have a problem! Question? What oil filter are we using? Have you tried a new one of a different brand? Could it be the bypass valve in that filter? I like the filters that sit straight up, I alwys fill them with oil before installing them.

That makes a good case for putting in an new or high volume pump in any engine before you install it. Hopefully it is just a bad filter put in a new motorcraft filter otherwise yea it is probably a pump.

I called Melling when I was doing my rebuild & they do not make a HV or HD oil pump for the 3.0. I would check & replace that filter first.

Why in the hell would one install a racing oil pump and use up more horses running it when there is NO REASON to have one in our engines? High Volume pumps are needed in high compression, high RPM engines! Ours does real well with what the engineers at Ford put in it! Now if there were Fords parked beside the hiway all over the country with burnt bearings...that might be a different story.
