Running Boards

Figures--My selling dealership quoted me $600.00-The part that really bothered me, was they didn't have a picture of the boards, and of course, nothing on the lot equipped with them either. But the research paid off, cause I got the Steelcraft units, delivered for $237.00, and had the fun of installing them

Do people actually use running boards?
Or are they for looks?
I can't remember ever using a running board in 40 years of driving a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck.

They aren't all created equal. These from Shrockworks are known as sliders. They are steps and also protect the rockers since ... they bolt to the frame... and best of all they don't stick out past the tires and have a big gap bewteen them and the truck... which looks like a set of pool steps bolted to your truck... https://www.shrockworks.com/FRAN5-Sliders-pr-16300.html

To each their own on the running boards. I had a set on my CR-V to make it easier for the kids to get in and out. I found that they weren't as useful as I thought they would be and tended to collect a lot of snow, ice, and mud.

I do have future plans to get some rock sliders in order to protect the rocker panels but I'll never get running boards again. I like the look they give just not the function.

Personally I used to like the ones that stuck out past the tires. It gave people something to hit with their doors instead of my truck. With everyone else driving big SUVs it might not matter anymore.

I had tube step running boards on my 93, felt they were too close to the body to be useable as a step so I made brackets that lowered them 2” and moved them out 1-1/2”. My daughter was pretty young at the time. they were usefull to knock the snow or mud off my boots before getting in. Think they were westin brand. kept the brackets when I retired that truck, the tube steps themselves were pretty rusted, even though I tried to keep them painted and even poured paint inside them when I first got them.
