Ok guys, it's finally time to start my offroad bumper. Tomorrow I'm picking up 2 pieces of 10ft thin-walled 2" OD HREW pipe and 2"x1" flat iron for use as a base and reinforcement. Then that gets welded to the front of the frame to ram people and things with. Pics and updates on the process tomorrow. Stay tuned folks!

The words "Thin-Walled" and "Ramming people and things" don't work together.

Nevertheless, I'll stay tuned! lol

lol, weld a fork lift to front.

Lol interesting. Get to it! :P

Good luck with the build

how thin is "thin wall"??

Picked up my steel and flat iron today. It's 20ft 16ga. HREW steel and 4ft of 2"x3/16" flat iron. And its not REALLY ramming, but more so a push/winch bumper. Besides the only things I really ram are smart cars and their owners, so I'm pretty sure it will be fine. Schedule 40 pipe was too expensive for what I had but 16ga. Seems pretty good for what I plan on using it for. I'm starting the build today once the desert starts to cool down a bit.

Not meaning to thread-jack... But isnt build a solid bumper just gonna eff up your frame? (So i hear anyways) lol

After my accident i REALLY wanted a bumper that would take that like a man... But the idea got shot down because of that reason and its really a bummer... Is there a way i dont know about that will negate the whole bending frame thing? :P

Me and my cousin built one for his 99 Ranger and mine is a 98. From what I've heard the gen 3 frames are very robust. We built one and welded it onto the frame and we towed an F350 with a 9K Superwinch and the guy hit the brakes it just pulled the front end of the Ranger towards the ground without bending so I think I'll be fine. Mine is just for added front end protection and killing smart cars. Besides, worst case scenario I have to grind it off and bolt my real bumper back on.

Just remember...some people ram back twice as hard......

:icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

It's only gay if your in reverse.

Just to be clear the tube is only for added protection, the actual base of the bumper is 5"x5" square HREW 1/4" wall steel. This piece is the main bit of protection. All the tube give the front of the wheels protection.

I'll get pics up momentarily guys. Been a LONG week for me. I won't be able to get much finished for the next couple of weeks until school lets out, but I did the some C-channel torched out to recieve the pipe. That same C-channel gets welded to the 5x5. But again, I'll get some pics up later guys. Maybe after school lets out Monday I'll get some up.:icon_thumby:

Ok guys here we go. The first pic is a representation of the one we built for my cousin. It has a 5x5 base just like mine and one the sides of the base are "sliding doors" to access the inside of the 5x5 square tube. Thats where he puts his winching stuff like gloves, chains, and straps. Then on the front of the 5x5 is C-channel with tubes integrated into it. Then there are some pics of the materials, the truck, and then a few of my other toys just for kicks. I've got 2 Honda Fourtrax TRX300V's a Harley-Davidson Sportster and an early model Bell Helicopter.
