Hi,
I'm considering buying a 94 ranger today thats 2 hours away but owner said one prob is that it loses the shift pattern on the 5 spd. Shop that has already done lots of work for the current owner says it needs a ring clip.

Is this a major expense if I buy the truck? Is it very drivable in that condition?

Thanks,
Bob Jr.

I don't know what a ring clip is but if it was cheap it would already be done. It sounds like at a minimum the tranny has to come out. $400.00 labor around me.

What does "Loses the shift pattern" mean?

If you mean that the shifter is very sloppy, then it's possibly a less than $20 fix for a new shifter bushing and about a half hour's worth of work in your driveway with basic hand tools.
