I just got a new fuel gauge and a new "universal" fuel sender. The Universal fuel sender only has the gauge portion.

I would like to drill another hole in the top of the fuel sender and use my OEM fuel siphon line, bend the new float arm to the OEM spec and make a adaptor to fit my tank. (universal kit fits 2" holes, I think the Rangers hole is bigger)

So my question is can I drill a hole in the top cover and use some sort of "feed thru" flare flanged fitting to install the old fuel lines in the new sender?

Basically once I cut the fuel line on the old sender I will need to use flare fittings, and some how attach the fuel line to the new sender. I thought about J.B. weld or some other product. Any thoughts on this?

Or should I just use one solid piece of new tubing and bend it to spec, but how would I attach it to the new sender?

why not just use one for the truck?

Not getting your question.

Also how important is that screen on the fuel pickup? I am thinking of fabing a new fuel tube for the sender and installing a large steel canister filter up by the mechanical fuel pump. As I cannot use the old screen(it's crimped/welded onto the old fuel tube.) A replacement is not available, hell I can't even get a new locking-seal ring for the gas tank!:icon_surprised:

My resistor on the trucks sender is dead, I thought about just taking the resistor off the new universal sender and mounting it on the old sender(and using a aftermarket gas gauge that matches the ohms), but I have *no* ideal on how to mount it to the old sender, as the resistor devices are different.

So I am trying to figure out a way I can put the two together so I can have a working gas gauge.

..NO aftermarket support, and the last one I got from a junker only lasted two days and it died.

So the univeral sender is only the gas gauge, the nonfunctioning one that is in the tank has the sender with the fuel pickup.

So I got to make something work here.

You trying to say you can't find a new stock sender?

Yes.:headbang: I am figuring out a way to rig these two senders together.

there is no such thing as a new stock sender for a '84 gas ranger.... they've been outlawed or something.

What I will attempt to do is Rivet/bolt the Universal sender onto the bottom of the original sender, so I can retain the correct seal ring with the gas tank, and hopefully the clearances will allow me to fit it in there.... if not it's major fabrication.
