Blah. That's how I feel right now. I heard a strange noise when I took it to work this morning, but I couldn't figure it out. Well, the noise continued on the way home. I popped my hood and found a brown water like substance all over the inside of the water pump pulley and the lower radiator hose. PISS. PISS. PISS. I think the Edelbrock water pumps front bearing is shot. That's all I effin' need to add to the list.

I have a list a mile long with my 3 foxes, it's depressing isn't it? LOL

Yes it is. This was the only part of the cooling system I planned on keeping. Unfortunately, it's going to have to wait until spring (maybe). If I am going to do this much, I might just switch to Evans Waterless Coolant.

EDIT: This is actually best case scenario from what I thought it was though. I thought it was a main bearing from the sound. I've lost several water pumps in this thing (Autozone pumps suck) and none of them sounded like this.

Any recommendation on a good high flow pump that isn't 200 dollars? Or are these Edelbrock water pumps rebuildable?

I went and took the belt off and confirmed.... it IS the water pump. The shaft has a crap ton of play in it. Also took a short video of it. This video doesn't quite give the awful sound it's due... it sounds terrible. Like I said before, I thought is was a main bearing until I put a light on it (it was dark).

So much for putting it in a car show tonight...... freakin' snow.

Goodnight Stang. She's done for the winter. I didn't get ONE thing done on her this summer. I feel bad, but funds were too low, and my time was short.

I know how that goes..............Our 88GT has been down for over a year now.
Lets hope 2013 is better!

Thank you! I haven't had much time this summer to work on it. I have several parts that are ready to be put on. Seems like anytime I find some time, something else fills that spot. To be honest, it's not been registered for 14 months now. I am going to register her in September though. Hopefully I can talk to DMV into changing my month to September. I've already had them do it for me twice - so they might get pissy.

That is something pretty major. :icon_thumby:

On the flipside I did a ton to my Ranger over the summer and it is still a lawn ornament... so don't feel too bad. :icon_twisted:

That is true.... I did at least register it. And I bought two tanks of gas for it - which costs as much as a mod nowadays.

But for the winter, she's a carport queen. BTW.... We got 8 inches of snow over the weekend, and she stayed nice and dry. :D

EDIT: I thought I'd just add that it just eats at me that it's parked with a bad water pump. I get anxiety thinking about it.

Well you got all winter to fix that. The plus side since you have to drain the coolant you won't have to worry about it freezing and cracking the block.

I get more done on my project during the winter months than I do in the summer. That said I don't own anything that's summer only either, not that seasons matter much down here.

How did you come out with the rear seal?

If he has snow on the ground it is probably already too late if his coolant wasn't mixed right...

It would really suck to change a water pump outside in winter conditions too.

Uhhhh....

I didn't get to that either.

EDIT: However I discovered that the leak seems to only occur when I turn. Don't know what the hell that's all about..... that's a whole different dimension of anxiety trying to figure that one out. It smells like oil, not PS fluid. But time became a big factor, and I had to get it put away before this storm came through.

Sorry to add to your wintertime misery.

If it makes you feel any better I have to do the same thing to my Ranger, only it is the torque converter seal that is puking fluid... the same one I debated about changing when the tranny was on the floor a year and a half ago but decided that since it looked new it would be ok. :annoyed:
