Alright, I know this sounds like a total noob post, but actually it's not. Well, it is a bit.
My 94 Ranger needs a repaint. It's baby blue with the gay pinstriping stickers, clearcoat is gone on 75% of the roof, rust spots here and there ... it needs a makeover.

But I can't think of a decent colour to save my life. Here's what I have thought of. Keep in mind I don't want no Pimp My Ride look, I'd prefer "enhanced OEM" kinda stuff.

Black - no way. Too much maintenance and scratches will show.
Green - can't think of a shade of green that makes me go "yes, I like that".

Bright silver - Pretty much my first choice as it stands. Classy, hides scratches well ... but silver is kinda boring. All the trouble of repainting a truck to go silver? I suck.
White - Same as silver, without the classy. Boring as well.

Yellow - I like Ford's yellow, and I like the FX4 kinda color combo (like this http://www.therangerstation.com/resources/fordphotos/2008_Ranger.JPG). But it's damn flashy.
Red - not as flashy, don't like it as much either.

Darker metallic blue - afraid dark colours will look ruined after the first tight trail.
Dark metallic red - same concern, with a preference for red. I kinda like this look ... http://www.automedia.com/NewCarBuye.../Pickup_Truck/2006_Ford_RangerSuper_ext_1.jpg

Pearl white - looks ricey, doesn't belong.
Orange - will look ridiculous

And that's all I've come up with! Feel free to contribute, if you have pictures it's perfect ...

I'm a fan of Shadow Grey and Mineral Grey. I'd like to get my Ranger painted Shadow Grey (See below)

This is the Mineral Grey I mentioned. It's just a little lighter. (This time, A convertible Cobra haha)

I thought about grey as well ... I think the lighter colour fit the Ranger better, hence my preference for bright silver.

Suprised about white ... I always hear it's a low maintenance colour ...

My Bll is white and I hate it. It shows up the least amount of dirt or dust. I plan on painting it as soon as I get a chance. I have all the equipment to do it, but like you haven't decided on color. I'm leaning toward maybe a semi- metalic black, if there is such a thing.

I actually worked at a Full service car wash for about a year and the white cars never looked as good as the colored ones. They always show dirt, even when they're CLEAN!! haha

That's great info on white, I'm ruling it out right now!!! I would've never thought!

I also thought about satin or matte colours, but I just think it would look like primer. I mean, a flat black Ferrari 360 looks awesome ... my Ranger? Prolly not ...

my truck is like a tan/desert silver and it is great only time it shows dirt or any thing is when I go to the snow and have salt down the sides other than that it barely show anything. it also hide the desert pinstriping farely well. but the down side is, it looks like a old mans car.

I would stay away from black paints my mustang is black and a soon as yo wash it, it looks great for a second. and by the time you get home it looks like crap again. it also shows every little scratch.

I would say two tone it. With a dark metallic blue on top and silver a few inches below the window. it will look cool I bet plus since silver hides scratchs and most scratches occur down below the doors it would work perfectly.:headbang:

Black isn't too bad to keep looking good from 20' away. I have had 2 vehicles this color and I really like it. White is by far and away easier to keep clean, grey is the best. Brown/tan is ok but it shows mud that isn't the same shade of brown pretty bad.

Dodge had a really neat earthy kind of a dark metallic green somewhere between 1994 and 2001/2 on their fullsize trucks that I really liked. If I ever repaint my Ranger it will be that color.

Ford has a nice metallic green too that looks really sharp with a light tan two-tone bottom.

The color of you interior is a major issue too. Gray is pretty universal but blue limits you to just about white and blue exterior.

How about General Lee Orange, but only with matching mag wheels, dixie horn, "01 on the side, and the rebel flag with general lee written under. Plus you could call it "The General", slide across the hood, jump it, always out run the cops.... the possibilities are endless!!
