Removing catt's and putting in stright pipe questions

Utter bullshit.

Run open headers for a while. Not actual headers, just the factory manifolds, no other exhaust, let's see what happens.

that's a different story, remember we were saying quality cats that are matched with the output of the engine? yeah, the mustang's wasn't... they were also junk cats, hence why they needed 4 of them...

mine on my mustang were gutted too

Cats have to have two compartments, the number of cats really doesn't mean anything. Some have both compartments in one assembly for both banks, some have two cats for both banks, some have two cats per bank and I imagine some have one cat for each bank. It all depends on the setup. The modern honeycomb type setup is what made the difference for performance.

My '02 F-150 has two cats per bank.

I ran about a foot of pipe stuck in the manifold of my tractor for years with no ill effects aside from the engine heat turning the outer chrome pipe blue. Lots of fireballs too.

It is velocity that makes the difference, the whole "backpressure" thing is a load of crap. Too big of pipe and the exhaust pulses get lost on their way out, too small of pipe and they can't get out fast enough. Just right and they kinda pull each other along.

One of the by-products of burning fossil fuels is polonium 210...a daughter particle of radon gas and very close to lead in atomic structure...

I read somewhere that catalytic converters would become radioactive over time and if you happened to fall asleep under one your body would be blasted with short wave radiation that was known to cause cancer, impotence, and an affinity to topless waitresses with brown eyes...

I've never slept near my cat so I don't know...

Find me one example of that burning a valve.

If it didn't sound like total shit and wasn't retarded loud, I'd do it in a heartbeat to prove a point.

Are you ladies still sqawking about this? TRS has spoken, let the kid do what he wants. Senseless e-ranting won't change anyone's opinions.

I am thinking about removing the catts and replacing them with stright pipe. :icon_welder: what will that sound like with the stock muffler? Iv been heavily involved with truck pulls and im looking for some more power. Iv got this F-150 I havent been able to pull hahhahhaha :bawling:

Nothing like documenting an illegal modification on an internet forum. :shok:

So lets just say.... that one has removed the DPF and CAT on a super duty 6.4l. Is that illegal. Even though the state one resides in has no emission laws on diesels at the moment. One understands that if law is passed the DPF and CAT must be put back.

+1 as long as it doesnt backfire itll be fine

1. running just exhaust manifolds will NOT burn a valve or damage you head in any way (only if you were to run the exhaust straght out of the head you get the chance of burning valves. but more likely you will end up with a warped head)
2. Running no CATS will not gain you anymore power expecially on a 4 cylinder.
3. Yes removing the CATS is illegal, BUT if the vehicle is not registered and or is not driven on the road there is no reason to worry about emissions laws. so all you "federal offense" nannies get over it. he may tow it to the truck pull for all you know.
4. Its a 4 cyl, why are you at truck pull with it?
5 once again its a 4 cyl why are you trying to make it LoUDER?! itll sound like crap no matter what you do!!!

It doesn't matter what the state laws are, it is a federal thing... it is only up the states to enforce it. So as it sits right now it is basically illegal but nobody officially cares in whatever state that is.

I can't speak for other areas, but I know that if a car from another state that has a current registration would not be bothered at all with the federal cats law. We have counties that have no emissions laws, and Salt Lake County doesn't even bother them. They may hassle you over an obvious safety issue like a busted windshield, broken tail light, etc. but they won't enforce a federal cats law. I am betting California just might enforce a law like that though.

Sent while I should be doing something else

Must be related to that jeep thing.....

I understand though. I'm not into "rolling coal" but it is fun at times like in the 1/4 mile haha ESP when its a ricer I'm against. They hate the fact my 250 is faster. Only reasons I did it was it doubled my HP and torque and almost doubled my fuel mileage. Mileage being the main reason.

California would absolutely enforce that kind of law. CA is one of the most absurd states and they will put out a noose for you if you violate emissions laws.

I have heard it really wakes up the 6.4... a couple guys are doing it here because they are coming out of warrenty and whatever acts like a cat in the exhaust is dying.

Personally it would almost be worth doing just to get rid of the stupid looking dual exhaust tips (that will actually screw things up if you remove on a stock truck)

I am not a big diesel fan so it is a non-issue with me anyway. :D
