i have an 87 ranger about a 4 inch lift with 32's...eventually im gonna be movin up to 35's and pretty sure i have stock gears in them..i was thinkin about goin up to 4:10's but read around and some people would rather put 4:88 in them..what are yalls opinions? What gears would be in there now? and How much would it generally cost just for parts..i get labor for free:)

Don't waste money on stock axles, they will go snap crackle pop at the first sign of dirt. The least you should do is swap in a d35 and 8.8

What gears would be in there now?

That right there depends largely on what gears are in there right now. Hard to say since you have given us no information by which to divine your gear ratio.

And just what motor do you have? Little motors take more gearing.

I had a 84 ranger that I bought for scrap and made it a woods beater before scrapping. I had bald 35's on it and was breaking front shafts daily. That was with a 4 cylinder that has a dead cylinder, so it was running on 3. Back tires were at maybe 1/4" of tread, fronts had 1/8" if that.

Not worth gearing them, just swap in at least a 35/8.8.

Yep. If you got anything less than a 4.0L V6 (which wouldn't be stock on a '87), you want 5.13 gears for 35s (plus the already mentioned D35/8.8" axle swap).

its a 1987 ranger extended cab 4x4 with the 2.9 v6 in it. also how much would the d35 swap cost just for parts

Depends on how much your source wants for parts.

I have one D-35 that I bought for $50. I have another one that I actually used for more than parts, paid about $200 for it. Also, if it needs seals and joints, you are looking at more money there.

Since we aren't talking about parts you can go down to NAPA and buy, but stuff you have to find and buy used there is no one set price to do by.
