Refreshing my 1989 Saleen Mustang

I went out to work on my car yesterday and I notice that the front seats are gone but nothing else was missing. I thought "who would steal seats and nothing else. They would have had to trip over $10,000 worth of Snap-On tools to get to them." So I called my dad to ask him if he took them and he did. He took them out to be re-upholstered for my Christmas present. Definately a good Christmas present in my opinion.

Now they are having trouble finding any matching material since no one makes the Saleen fabric anymore. They had to cut a couple of 1 inch squares out of the seat to send off to a warehouse that buys old fabric to find out if they bought the old stuff from Ford or whoever originally made it.

Nice! That's freakin' awesome. Please post some pics when you get them back.

The seats turned out AMAZING. I am shocked how closely the material matches the original. The upholstery shop completely redid all the foam, I got the seat pans back from them and welded up some reinforcements on them so they wouldn't be quite as flimsy. I have got to hand it to the shop, they did awesome work, because these seats were TOTALLY shot. All they ended up using was the seat pans. They redid everything else.

VERY NICE!! I know they were a gift, but any idea what they charged? My front seats need to be redone.

nice man great gift car is gonna be awsome

It was in the range of $600, but they were in pretty rough shape like I said. If your seats are in better shape than it should be cheaper

Nice car, in restored form its worth anywhere from 24k-50k dollars.

Im kinda surprised that you bored the block, but didnt have it decked. (resurfaced) Are you gonna deck the heads to bump compression a lil? A good surfacing and port and polish will do wonders for your power numbers, and will affect what cam you choose. (unless you already chose one, I only read the first post)

That would be your best bet. Those you can put on yourself if you buy the right staple gun. Or you could pay someone to put it on, but either way I think that a clean interior is an absolute must and will always increase the value of a car.

They have a kit that's relatively cheap with the staples and the tool. I'll probably do that as well. My current project I'm gathering stuff for is a little exhaust. I got new headers, now I just need to get a MAC 3 piece H-Pipe. Then I will focus on the interior.

P.S. I'm a tight SOB, I haggle prices all I can. LOL

Well... time for an update I guess. I installed the new engine, but I am having a hard time getting the long tubes adjusted to where they won't hit the steering shaft. I pulled the engine back out ot deal with the long tubes and also to put in a new T-5. My brother was able to score me a 93 Cobra T-5 with 75,000 original miles. I am not exactly sure of the differences from a regular T-5 but it is supposedly stronger. Either way, I got it for close to nothing. My current T5 worked just fine, but I wanted to keep the original Saleen drivetrain together.

Sweet mustang you got there.

I'm a fan of anything Ford that's been gone over by a good tuning company. And it's awesome that your dad had your seats overhauled.

Do you know if anyone reproduces those seats in whole form?

That's awesome. You'll be driving it soon!

You can get upholstery for them. As a whole though, I haven't seen them anywhere.

Here's the upholstery kit:

EDIT: Wait a minute......my dumb a$$ forgot that yours are the Saleen seats, not 85-86 GT seats. Sorry!!!

:idiot:

Yeah, I've seen GT upholstry kits lol.

I'm sure if any Saleen seats were for sale they'd be very pircey though. People already go batty and snatch up normal Mustang seats as it is.

I don't know that there's much difference other than the headrest though. If I find some decent 85-86 GT seat, I'm on it. I'd love some of those in mine.
