Refreshing my 1989 Saleen Mustang

yes let him know were gratful for him serving us and let him know thats a beautiful car he has

Well here is another update. I am suppose to pick up my new seats on Sunday. They are the 85-86 GT seats but are very similar to my Saleen Flo-Fit seats. Mine are in really rough shape and the material is no longer available. I picked up the 2 front seats and the rear seat for $200 in excellent shape.

very nice!!!

Well, I got up to the guys mustang shop and he sold the seats out from under me. So I'm back to the starting line with the interior. Kinda pisses me off, but I guess I can see where he was coming from. A guy walked into his shop and offered him more than what he was asking for them. If it were me, I still would have saved them, but not all sellers have integrity

Well here is an update. I picked up the heads and intake from the machinist a few weeks ago and I have the heads on the block pretty much ready to go. All I had left to do was pull the old engine out of the car, which I did on Saturday all by myself. It's definately alot easier to do that if you have an extra pair of hands.

Now I just need to finish stripping down the engine bay so I can repaint it, then hopefully install new engine and get it running.

stick with the 85\86 gt halo seats imo there the best lookin seat offered in any fox

Hey, just found your thread. It looks great, and the build is coming along slowly but surely. Good job!

Hopefully you will have far less electrical woes than I have experienced with my '92 GT.

Have you run into any problem recently?

The seats that originally came with the Saleens were halo headrests, only IMHO they are much better than the 85/86 seats since they have bigger side bolsters. I have the seats sitting right next to each other, if I get a chance soon I will snap a picture of them side by side for reference.

I haven't had anything serious happen recently, however, when I first got the car the headlights would turn off randomly at night leaving me driving on the highway with NO lights at all. Talk about scary. It ended up being a wire just behind the headlight switch, somehow it cracked and would ground out randomly. Other than that I haven't had anything to terrible yet

im sayin looks wise im sure the saleen seats have more suppourt i personally like the halo seats though

yes it is. It has the last 6 numbers of the VIN on it and also the year and number of the car. It may also have something else, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

looks like you're having fun,but that engine bay needs a coat of fresh paint.

it's a major pain in the butt to do,but makes a huge difference to the look when the hood is opened.

Awesome. When the time comes to I pull my motor I plan to POR-15 the entire engine bay. The damn thing runs so good though, I don't see this happening for a while.

I couldn't agree more about it being a pain in the butt, but I have to do it. The hard part is done since the engine is out and Dupli-color makes it easy. They actually have this exact color on the shelf at most Autozones. I also have my HVLP spray guns if I wanted to make it really glossy with clear, but I don't care that much. Besides I want to keep it close to factory finish. If you notice in the pic I already have quite a bit of the wiring and plumbing stripped from the front of the engine bay, it's the firewall that is a big pain.

I wouldn't worry about pulling the engine until its time to replace/rebuild it either. Thats the only reason I am going to paint it

this is the way i look at it too.unless you're doing a full on strip-it-down restoration,it's not worth pulling the engine just to paint the bay....but if the engine is already out and you have the time,it would be a shame not to shine things up a little.:icon_thumby:
