Refreshing my 1989 Saleen Mustang

How about some pictures and info on that yellow "critter" in the background of that last picture! Sounds like you've got a good plan for the '89'

That's my dad's 1970 Boss 302. As you can see, it is in perfect condition. Sitting in front of that is my grandpa's 1931 Model A. My Dad's garage seems to collect nice cars since it's climate controlled (and has a 2 post lift, welders, Air compressors, bead blasters, and much much more that make working on cars alot easier). Unfortunately my garage is the old barn wood kind that whistles when the wind blows. It works ok to change oil in and store a motorcycle or car, but to work on them I always go to his garage. Here is the only other picture that I have of the Boss 302, but this was in his old garage:

Well, I wish it did too. Being Oxford White, the paint started flaking off shortly after this photo. I have a new front and rear bumper cover in the shed for it. I've just been busy working on my Ranger. The Stang has been neglected this summer for sure, the last time I drove it was the first week of July.

UPDATE: Since this last comment, I have since put a new front and rear bumper cover on, new cowl cover on, and will be receiving new door moldings tomorrow. Also ACTIVELY searching for a good paint shop. Pretty sure I've settled on a place, but if anyone in Utah knows a guy......hook me up.

Picked up a trick flow stage 1 cam and spring upgrade for the new 5.0 from another member on here, should be here any day now. Now i just have to send the heads and intake off to get cleaned, ported and polished.

Shit, I hate to post 3 times in a row, sorry. You'll have to let me know how good that cam is. I REALLY like my GT-40P heads. Best bang for the buck I've put on the car. I also just got a GT-40P upper intake at Pick-N-Pull last week. I am currently running just a GT-40P lower and a Down's Ford upper which is a "breadbox" style made for forced induction. It pulls like hell from 3,000 to redline how it is. I'm going to put this other upper on it and just see how it acts in comparison, although it's probably a next summer project.

I'd have to look around but I think there is a good Mustang restoration shop out there on one of the sites.
That is one fine looking Boss, used to watch them run at Road America. Kind of funny but you can now buy cars right of the showroom floor (stock for stock) faster.

Shane, we are going to have about the exact same mods done and both our mustangs are 89's. I am looking for a MAF and 24 lb injectors right now. Already have the Mac exhaust, 3.55 gears, hurst shifter, gt-40 heads, Explorer intake, and 65mm TB. I guess you are running the stock cam right now?

Mac, My dad stripped the car completely down, had the bodywork done at a local shop that does really good work, then had a friend paint it, but he didn't like the way it looked so he stripped it all back down. Then sent it off to his cousins shop called Gateway Classic Mustang and had them redo everything. Here the car is when it was finished in 2007:

My dad is a perfectionist and it shows in every aspect of his car

Yeah, it's a factory cam. I do have 1.7 rockers (same part number as 93 Cobra) though, which made it a little better. I actually bought my Hurst through Saleen; I think it's what came in yours. It's actually just a Hurst base with a shortened stock handle and aluminum bushings.

Is your 65mm TB off of an Explorer? Mine is, I did the modifications to fit a Mustang.

Yeah the TB is off the explorer and I will have to do the mods to get it to fit. I think you were the one that gave me a pretty good link about it.

Well, here's how mine looks now. I'm a little embarrassed to post it with the other photos on here. It's going in for paint on Wednesday though. All of the dirt in the pics on the floor under the fenders came from inside the fenders. There were so many leaves and debris in there, I'm surprised they weren't in worse shape.

Awesome, Definately take some good before and after pics. I love when a nice car gets some new skin. Mine needs some paint but I've got to get it running and in good shape before I worry about paint.

Yeah, I need to get my good camera out. All of those were taken with my cell phone. The guy that's painting it is a Stanghead too, so he is going to take pics throughout the process. I have so damn much anxiety over this thing, LOL. I want it done. I want to put it in the "Cruise Nights" next year.

Oh, and mine still needs work too. It leaks oil from the front and rear seal, and the old T5 needs rebuilt (it is only noticeable when I'm in race mode though). I just don't want this to get any worse. I have little spots of rust showing up which are worrying me.

As bad as it looks, I still get people telling me how much they like it. At one of the body shops I took it to, one of the employees drooled all over it and asked me to sell it to him. I get a lot of compliments on how mean it sounds; which always makes me smile (I love my MAC Flowpath mufflers).

I noticed somehow I missed this pic above:

It's been too long since I have gotten mine out to get any compliments, but soon it will be out. I have unbolted Automatic trans from the engine and set it aside I wish I had more time, but I just don't. I'll post pics once I tear into the engine a little more

My baby is finally getting her just reward. I took it in today. I'm thinking about having this guy or my brother airbrush the "5.0" emblems on the fenders. What do you think of that idea?
