Rebuild VS Bigger Engine

So there are holes in my block near the cylinders, above the crank Gulley. No 2 are the same and the edges are sharp so I am led to believe that my block is toast. I'll try and post pictures but I can't from my phone. :annoyed:

Well, the loose head bolts and holes in the block would definitely explain the coolant loss/burning oil scenario you'd been having.
It's also a good thing you didn't just slap new head gaskets on it and go.

Yes it does. The oil that has been slowly seeping out of my block was nasty and sludgy, too. But, I think my block is toast.

They say curiosity killed the cat, curiosity also save me a lot of money and time. But now I'm not sure what road I want to take.

Picture spam incoming.

The holes in the block I was talking about.

3 of the pistons had broken rings in the top slots. The cause of burning oil? it didn't score any cylinders.

Sludge in the bottom of my pan. Notice my finger track in it. There is no chunks of my block in it.

Inside of my intake. I don't think it should be that black and oily.

That's all the pictures I feel like posting. I have like 200 or so total though.

If the pictures don't load, here's a place you can find them.

put a tauraii motor in and go.

Also, there was never any sign of a coolant-oil leak or mix, nor did any block chunks come out of the pan. There was never milk shake anywhere on the dip stick or on the oil filler. And wouldn't I loseI have lost my crank?

Dude, I don't even see anything to click...

EDIT: Found it. Next time underline you link or something. For me and probably some other people links show up like normal text.

I'm really not familiar with the 3.0L engine, but they definitely don't look like they are supposed to be there. That said, if block damage was the cause I would expect to see an obvious crack across there, and chunks of block lying in the bottom of the pan. If those holes are intentional the only possibility I can come up with for those holes is oil drain back from the lifter valley and cam area, but I doubt that to be the case. Regardless I think I'd consider that engine toast and get a lower miles engine to drop in.

If you're on a Mac then two finger tap and select "open image in new tab". That will bring them up. If on a PC then it'll be the equivalent, either left or right click to open the drop down menu.

i see em now....throw it in a dumpster and get a fresher one.

I'm still fairly new to the forums so I apologize.

I'm tempted to find a wrecked 4.0 donor and do a swap... but with me only being 18 and still at home, parents say no to that. They also won't let me find a car with a good engine for a donor since they don't think the 3.0 out of a Taurus is the same as a 3.0 out of a ranger. It is the same, just needs some adjustments. But whatever. I'll let them find me a turn key ranger 3.0 then.

My brother, a Toyota tech, looked at the block and said the holes shouldn't affect anything. It doesn't look like it goes into the coolant area.

I shall do so. I also found a 2wd 5 speed 3.0 at a junk yard. I may try and get the whole truck since they do that kind of thing, take what i need and part out the rest. But this is looking promising.
