Rear Window Options

I know I have seen the topic of rear window interchange come up at least once over the years, with nobody have a definitive answer. Well I was having rear window issues, and another member, gpmiller, has a 2000 he is parting out, so we got out the tape measure the other weekend and looked at some stuff any well, here is a picture of my 87 cab with his 2000 rear slider installed. This means rear windows can interchange at least between 86 and 2000 for the super cabs.

My '99 has the pop-vent side windows above the jump seats...not a great option.

I have a 2005 supercab with the plain rear window. I have also just bought a 1996 supercab with the slider. What I was wondering is if I could put the one from the 05 into the 96. The 05 was just totaled so I am thinking about swapping some parts.

I've been trying to get a slider for mine for years but my window bolts in and all the ones I've seen at the yards just use a gasket...

Where's the confusion? There are 2 different rear windows...

1. Bolt in. (All supercabs. All 98 and up regular cabs.)

2. Gasket mount. (All pre 98 regular cabs.)

I believe the slider was used primarily in the two door extended cabs with rear fold-out seats but without a rear door as somewhat of a safety escape

They were also part of the reason those models were most prone to theft, I read somewhere that a topper made em more secure

I did the swap yesterday. I pulled the plain window from the '05 and installed it on the '96. I wanted to share this since I did find one very minor difference. As you can see from the pictures the slider from the 96 has 3 studs on the top. The one from the '05 has 5 on the top. The additional 2 on the '05 are each 11" from the center one. So measure this amount from each side on the '96 and drill the mounting holes (they are 5/16").

Hey I'm a new member here but have been using this forum since I got a ranger. So what if I want to put a solid rear window in my 94 regular cab. What ranger would I get a window out of? Would it be any regular cab with a solid rear window?

You need to figure out if you have a gasket held window, or one that is bolted in first. All the double sliders I have ever seen were held by the gasket. All the single sliding windows I have seen were bolted in.

Alright well mine is a double slider but how would I tell can I visible see the bolts if there is any

Been wanting to put a slider in my single cab 98 for awhile. I wasn't aware of the differences. So the single cab 98 has a bolt-in rear window? Are there sliders available for single cab bolt-in? I was planning on taking it to a wiindow shop a mile away anyways, as I want to get the tint redone, it's faded after all the years it's been there.

Sliding Back Window, Ranger


Removal

1. From the interior of the vehicle, pull down the weatherstrip lip along the window opening and push the back window frame and weatherstrip out of the window opening from inside the cab.

2. Remove the weatherstrip from the window frame and place the movable window in the open position.

3. For the top of the window frame, remove the screw retaining each division bar.

4. Remove the two screws retaining anchor plate in the window track and remove the plate.

5. Spread the window frame and work the movable glass out of its track. Remove from frame.

6. If the stationary glass is to be replaced, remove the division bar lower retaining screw and remove the division bar.

7. Spread the window frame just enough to permit stationary glass to be worked out of frame.
