Found a 8500 Smitty built today for the scant price of $200!!!:yahoo:

I already have a winch on the front of the truck, and, well... it cant just sit around the shop, that'd be a waste! So, on the back of the truck it goes. I honestly dont use my winch too often, and have a jack all for pulling the truck backwards if Im alone. But, why not?:headbang:

Any pictures of rear winch bumpers? Suggestions? Someone to call be a moron? Im lovin this find!

here is my suggestion quick easy all you need is a reciever. Now get to making a cool rear bumper with a reciever.

I'll have to take a pic tommorow, I already have a "custom" rear bumper. Its just a single tube mounted on 3/8s plate, but, with all the stuff I've pushed and pulled with it, it hasnt given at all...

Im looking for a more permanent mount. First, my old ranger had a reciever mount and it SUCKED. While it was nice to be able to move it, I found on several occasions I either couldnt get it out of its front hitch, or it was a bitch to carry through the swamp I was buried in.

Second, my idea is to be able to use the winch to load vehicles onto the car dolly while it's attached to the truck.

Third, if Im REALLY screwed, I can remove my front winch, attach it to the hitch in case the rear winch fails. (I know this one is redundant, but I hunt and work and wheel in some REALLY remote areas, no cell signal, no local radio stations, no nothing. I walked out once after a creek crossing was not a creek at all:icon_surprised:)

That's a good idea! Damn I love Harbor Freight! I'm gonna rig up one on the front too so I can move it to the front or back! Does anyone know about those $60.00 HF winches? Are they worth a crap?

....departure angle Killer! I drag my bumper on enough stuff offroad and it's tighter and higher up then a stock bumper.

Here's mine, way overkill. The 1/2" plate could easily have been 1/4" but it's what I had at the time.

Now were are getting closer!

I just have to mount mine where I can access the lever for the clutch and controller. I like the way yours is mounted, very nice indeed.

PS: you can never have too much steel holding your winch in place, I've seen entire bumpers tear loose, nobody hurt yet, so I can still LMAO.

If you're talking about the 3000# ATV winch they want $60.00 for don't even bother they aren't strong enough to move a stuck truck. They would be better mounted to a trailer to assist loading a dead vehicle or on your ATV.

those winches are not even big enough to pull my atv out of a hole when stuck :sad:mainly because the pull to much on the batt under a load:dunno: and i would never buy another winch there

Take your vehicles weight, fully loaded with all your gear, your girlfriend and yourself and your dog, multiply by 1.5 and you have a good starting point for you winch size. Buy a winch kit with a snatch block, and your set!

In my case, with a LOAD of extra gear, I weighed in at ~4700lbs. that'd be a winch size of 7050 lbs, call it 7100lbs. Most winches start around 8000lbs. An 8k lb winch would be the smallest I would ever count on.

My 10k lb milemarker is indeed overkill. However, with two transport batteries and a yellowtop under the hood, I still managed to stall it out! (once, only once, but still happened) This is why you need a snatch block, never leave the house without one!

dude, you got your jack all, you're set! :icon_rofl:

done thread jacking sorry, lol

Honestly, if I spend much more time in the garage with my car, the gf is going to cut me off....

And its a hi-lift... so shadup! :p

How about in the bed with mounting channel to the frame?
Centered up by the cab.
If pulling stright back, no problem.

If angled, take off the tail gate and slip a second fairlead into the reciever so it's up above the bed.

You can actually reach the handle fairly easily from underneath, especially when you clock the handle down.

Very nice on Wahlstrom's rear winch.
