When I got my oil changed recently, they said I have a small rear seal leak, but "It's not much to worry about yet"

What does that mean? About how much would that cost to fix.

It's a 3.0 with 225K, that's a bit of miles. I'm almost to the 3000 mark of my oil change, and hardly missing any oil.

Engines with that many miles

Frequently are wet near the rear main seal. As the miles add up the leakage past the piston rings gets larger, causing a bit more pressure inside the engine. YOUR pcv system takes that pressure out and puts it into the intake system. Which keeps oil from pushing past the rear main seal. If the pcv system isn't kept up, the pressure will push some oil past the rear main seal. As the pressure increases there will be more and more oil pushed out of the engine with the increaded blowby from the rings.
SO what to do is to keep the pcv system as clean as possible.
It is even possible on some engines to install a second pcv system or even a direct vacume to the inside of the engine to lower the pressure or even put a negative pressure inside the engine.

The rear seal, or the rear-main seal, is the oil seal at the back of the crankshaft. (transmission side)

Ashamed to say it, but I worked at one of the big-box oil change places. I will tell you this. Most of the idiots in the pit know next to nothing about cars. It seemed like every time something came in that was leaking any oil at all, the generic response was rear-main seal. Its like they heard it once, and now anything they see must be a rear main leak.

What I am getting at, is if you happened to take it to an oil-change special kind of place (wal-mart, jiffy lube, etc...) I would recommend getting a second opinion. Not saying that its not the rear seal, or that the guy who told you this didn't know his stuff. Just sharing what I have seen.

Your probably right. I was kinda thinking the same thing, like once, I had one of them tell me I had an exhaust leak, saying "its really loud under there" but.... no leak found, Lol.

It's at a Havoline Xpress place.
