My driver side leaf spring is almost flat. The passenger still has a little curve to it. I have a camper shell on and carry medium to heavy loads a couple times a month. I am thinking that I need to replace the springs but want to see what you guys think? Possibly swapping in some Explorer springs? Buy new springs? Buy lift blocks? What is the best way for me to go? I need to keep this on a tight budget so the high dollar springs are not really an option for me.

Truck is at 115k

I would buy new springs. they get worn out. you can use a passenger side from a junk yard, and use it on your driverside, but you never know what the difference is gonna be. you could go the super cheap route and put an add a leaf in only one side, but i dont know if i would do that for a long period of time, will probably handle weird.

I definitely want to replace them both. Would rather replace them both now rather than one now and one later.

best bet is to find a spring shop... you might have one in your town, youll never know until you look in the phone book. i didnt know we had one in our town. springs are way cheaper from them than ford, or mail order.

I got a set of springs from a 92 explorer. MUCH beefier then my stock ones which actually broke in the same spot on both sides. They are stiffer but much better for hauling and towing.

I got mine used from the junk yard for like 65 a piece (this is NWAP not a pick and pull, so I imagine you can get them cheaper then that.) I wanted new ones but at the shop they quoted me like 350 per spring and I was like F**K that.

Same. I was shocked, SHOCKED, when I found out how much new springs cost. I am going to pull them from a Explorer. Do I need to pull them from a certain year Explorer, or will any do?

i used explorer leafs and got almost no lift and retarded load capacity. i like it....... they are way thicker and while still do the ranger lean do support more weight

I called a local spring shop and this is what they told me:

New Springs $175 each
Installation $200
Total: $550

-or-

They can reshape my current springs and Add-A-Leaf to strengthen it for $450

What do you guys think?

How hard would it be to replace the springs by myself? What's the process?

If you have access to a jack and stuff I would install they yourself. I did mine in a few hours. You just unbolt them and bolt them back on.

Awesome, will try and tackle this next weekend. Thanks for your help.

**The springs from Ford start at $193 each.
