Sup fellas...
a week ago, as i was coming to a full stop at a red light, i applied the brakes on my 89 xlt 2wd 2.9L 5spd. stopped as normal, but felt a judder on the front right. next day i lifted the truck, replaced the pads (for free, under warranty) and had the rotors resurfaced, as well as new shoes/drums resurfaced as well.
the rear shoes looked very good, front brakes were shot to sh!t... so, i replaced all. however, upon bleeding the rear brakes, no fluid came out. very very very little brake fluid came out. eventually i bled them (took forever) topped off with new brake fluid, put new shoes, springs, wheel cylinders, everything went back to normal. did a test run to "break in" the pads with several hard starts/stops. I noticed then that the rear shoes were not expanding.
once again with the drums off and having someone apply the brakes, parking brake, i noticed that both rear shoes were NOT expanding. as in - pushing outwards.
hence, i'm guessing no brake fluid is reaching the wheel cylinder which is barely pusing the piston out of the wheel cylinder to expand the brake pads.
is a clogged hose common? i'm thinking of bleeding the rear brakes, seperating the rear rubber hose with split fitting valve thingy and then using an air compressor to blow out any crud and crap on the two individual brake lines on the left and right (not on the main line coming from the master cylinder).
anyone have any better methods? suggestions? yay or nay?
thanks in advance!
