1993 Ranger XLT SC Rear Brake Adjuster Spring Dilemma

I guess I don't need it then.
You will need something. The adjuster cable pulls the adjuster upwards to rotate the star wheel and adjust the brake tension. Then there needs to be something to pull the adjuster back downwards so that it can be pulled up again when necessary.

get the other spring kit

try this setup, from a 1993-2000 Haynes manual
I seem to remember this from older Fords.

EDIT the kit in post 3 has 3 big springs just like this.
other pics only have 2 big springs and the straight one on the adjuster.

EDIT #2, note the 2 different styles of adjuster arms. which do you have?

This! That’s how the older style goes together.

I have the same setup in this photo you have posted. I have that actuator cable coming down on the side left and the spring set up on the self adjuster plate the same exact way , and if you notice there isn't any spring armature going across the self adjuster plate.

@pjtoledo Can you recommend a good service manual and a link if possible for a 93 Ranger XLT. Thanks

Does anyone know which kit has that adjuster mechanism spring.
I know the 97 and newer use the spring that you posted. What PJ posted is how the older style is supposed to be, if yours doesn’t look like that, something is not right. The old style had no pin on the brake shoes and had a hole instead, the brake shoes with the pin for the adjuster use the newer style.

Both of the photos you posted have the brake shoes with the pin. You need the newer style adjuster kit and spring kit to use those. Theoretically you should be able to use either style on the 8.8ā€ but you have to make sure that you use all of the correct parts for what style you have. If you look close at what PJ posted, there is no pin for the adjuster and it instead clips through a hole in the brake shoe.
