so i installed my lockright this afternoon and having never had one before i was wondering if the noises are normal.. during normal driving everything is fine but doing wicked slow turns it makes a horrribly loud click and feels like i'm going to break it. is that normal and just part of the "getting used to it" part?

i'm thinking it might have to do with thrust washers? i have no idea what they are and didn't know how to take them out during installation. from the images i googled, they look like the thin washers on the back of the smaller spider gears but they dont look like theyd fit over the axle ends..

The trust washers are used with the lock-right... Mine was never very loud, certainly not loud enough to hear during normal driving.

I hope you put them back in right. They are side appropriate. It can cause a lot of problems if you put them in wrong!

is the loud click repetative in the corner, or just one loud one? my cj5 is locked and if you take a tight corner you will hear it. if you try to accelerate or if you get off the gas quickly it will actually lock up on you and start jerking the car. the clicking is just it "sliding" past the lock stage. ours is really loud and people always tell us we have loose lugnuts. its just the locker. if you read the instructions it should say that you will hear loud clicks and it is normal

i dont even know if i took them out! what do they look like and where should they go??
Look at the original side gears you took out, if they aren't there then there are still in your diff where they belong.

Did you fill the diff full of gear oil I hope? if its empty the ratcheting noises will be very pronounced.

Mine is pretty loud even with 80w-145 gear oil.

yeah it's if i take a really slow turn or accelerate out of a turn. a loud click or two and a jerk then it goes fine

yeah. thats normal. its just part of having a locker. you will get used to it. you just have to keep steady throttle in the corners and you should be all set

x2^^ normal for sure. mine is very noisy in turns, clicking loudly. it's the way they are constantly ratcheting in turns. get used to it i'm afraid. another reason i went to Detroit, not the new style, but the original one.

well thats good to know, lol. i got some washers anyway because i had a 7/32 gap instead of the 5/32 LockRight specified and wanted to tighten it up a bit. thanks for all the help. guess it'll take some getting used to

good luck. never got used to mine. especially in parking garages, it's very loud bouncing off all the concrete. everyone looking at you like you're driving an old, broken pos. only bad thing i can say about the Lock Right though, solid performer.
