Re-wiring Fog Lamps

So, I noticed the other day that the fog kit wire I bought was getting somewhat hot while I was testing them. So I am going to replace the entire wiring with new one. What gauge wire should I use? The one that came with the kit looked somewhat thin. Anyone?

What wattage are your fog lights?
Are the fog lights the only load on the circuit?

Are you running the lights off a relay? If not you really need to. Some of those driving lights pull some major amperage when on and if you run them to long it will melt the sheeth on the wire reguardless of the size of the wire and possibly start a fire.

I bought them as a replacement for a 89 Mustang. Apperently, they do fit 93-97 Rangers. I am 99% sure they are 55 watts each (2).

I was not running a relay at the time I was testing. All I had was the Negative, and the Positive with the switch with a 15 amp fuse.

But you're running a stock wiring harness? Or did you install the harness and wires.

I bough an aftermarket installation kit. But when I was testing it, the wire that came out of the battery was hot.

I'm just wondering what type of gauge wire I should use. I don't want to overheat the wires.

There only pulling 4A each, so 16AWG would be sufficient, but if you plan on ever putting in bigger bulbs i'd run 14AWG.

I had a role of 16, but I went out and instead bought 14 gauge. It seems better and I prefer to loose power rather than over heating them and letting them catch on fire.
