Ranger44's build: Project FAZDA

3). Longer shackles- Belltech 6400's.

4). Would like to rid the rear suspension of that nasty block, and just have straight leaf.

Thats what I did. Took out the block, put in some 2wd u bolts and belltechs and it eliminated a lot of axle wrap.

red just keeps getting lighter and lighter every day doesn't she?

One Ranger must be consumed to build another........:icon_cheers:

That's good to hear. That will probably remain my plan then.

Since I usually go by the phrase "pictures or it didn't happen"....here's the lock-rite:

Beautiful thing, isn't it? :D

I took a detour to the local yard today and found what I'm using for extended shock mounts........oh boy.....

Just about 14" from shock eye mount to bottom. Should be just right.

Speaking of making "RED" lighter.......Cut the coil buckets off her. Or at least what I needed of them.....hehe

Just ordered 5-760x u-joints off ebay for $19ea brand new. It's only $10 to ship them. So $67 for 3....can't beat that. Especially when they are usually $29ea. :icon_bounceblue:

It did come with a 1354M, but I swapped in a junkyard 13-54 while I had it apart this past summer. I did this because it was clean....very clean. Like I spent an hour with a power washers, degreaser, and various brushes clean.....

But, I fear it has a bad bearing or bent output shaft. We'll see, I do have a spare 13-54E that I hope parts will swap over easily.
if you wanna make me a deal ill meet ya some where for the rack and the 1354 :dunno:

deffinantly looking good i like the looks of the mazda not too many around that ive seen
PARTS SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1). D35 lockrite for $124. Brand new in the box! Local. Only had to travel 40min to get it. Now will locked front and rear

2). Paid for my 4.10 "TRUE" D35 diff through AllanD. Being shipped out by Monday.

3). 3" James Duff Brackets and coils should be here today from Destroyer000. Thanks again Cody.

Now just figuring out what to do to improve the rear:

1). Looking at swapping on 94-00' Mustang disc brakes onto my 7.5. Just the GT versions. Dustin, they have that parking brake system that mechanically actuates the caliper. They are 10.5" rotors. It's almost a bolt on affair. Why not when Ranger drums have a constant problem of "not self adjusting".

2). Would be nice to make a heavier duty diff cover, or at least a protector of some sort.

3). Longer shackles- Belltech 6400's.

4). Would like to rid the rear suspension of that nasty block, and just have straight leaf.

Ryan
i highly suggest swapping over to 63 inch chevy leafs i was amazed at the flex and ride difference, and its a pretty easy swap...no more axle wrap for me

Dropped arm fo' CHEAP.

$25......

I'd say it was a dropped arm>

stock is about 3".

Sure, the only 13-54 I have is a 13-54E, the manual ended up not being the problem. The u-joint was crap. PM sent.

if you wanna make me a deal ill meet ya some where for the rack and the 1354 :dunno:

Got something nice on my front step today!

Thanks NMB2!

Gotta have everything before I lift it.

Plus.....

It builds suspense.......:icon_bounceblue:

All I NEED now is for these shocks to show up!

Rear shocks can wait till funds are good.

.....a little bit of prep (painting/welding), and I'm thinking this can happen in a couple weeks maybe a few. :icon_thumby:

Working on cleaning some stuff up today and doing some work to the D35 diff.

I think I may persuade your uncle Richard to sandblast a couple things for me, Dustin. Square us up for the engine stand.....lol...IDK.

Pics will show up tonight

:headbang:BTW, 100 POSTS!:yahoo:

Dude looking awesome! Glad to see i'm not the only one hoarding lift parts one piece at a time. Still gonna run the bilsteins out back being as you have the Foxs up front?

Oh and btw speedo cable came in today. thanx a ton man

No prob.

Yeah, hoarding........he he.

The only reason I'm running FOX shox up front is the deal I got on them. Normally they would have been WAY to expensive. They just happen to be about right for what I needed.

But yes, Bilstien 5125's or 5250's will take their place in the rear. :icon_thumby:

Saturday and today's work.........

Cleaned up the chunk.......down to bare aluminum.

001-2.jpg

002.jpg

Then coated it with zinc enriched primer, regular primer, and then dark grey industrial enamel. Then baked.

003.jpg

Mishap with the original carrier.......did I ever say how much I FAWKING hate these roll pins? :annoyed: Not sure how I accomplished it, but broke a punch off into the carrier, and now way in hell was it coming out....so of to the J-yard I go to make myself $25 less rich.

005.jpg

Luckily there was already an axle pulled and swiped the carrier with about 30 minutes worth of work.

New parts! :icon_bounceblue:

004.jpg

Ring was placed on the carrier at 80 ft/lbs with loctite, then lock-rite installed. Caps at 50 ft/lbs.

008.jpg

BYE BYE....you won't be missed......:thefinger:

006.jpg

Checked the pattern using grease (per Sasquatch_Ryda's adice), it was very even and right in the middle, so I'm worried about it less.

A "newer" Timken bearing was installed:

007.jpg

New Timken seals were also installed.

Also decided to sling some primer in prep for some pretty BLUE paint......:D

009.jpg

Going over to my Dads next Friday or Sunday to weld up reinforcement on the spare beams, and doctor up the cut buckets. I picked up 50 lbs of 1/8", 1/4", 3/16", and one strip of 1/2" plate for $25. Can't beat new steel for fifty cents a pound........:icon_thumby: It'll be more than enough to do what I'm wanting.
