so i just got my dana 35 in an hooking up the steering and this is a dumb question but is the stud supposed to stick up from the top or bottom on the knuckles? an my pitman are will be straight an the driver side straight but the passenger side will be way pointed in? can you not use ranger steering on explorer 35?

:icon_confused: I assume you are talking about the tie rod ends attaching to the knuckles? If so, the TRE is on top of the knuckle. As far as the second question, yes, Ranger steering will work fine with the D-35. Did you get the tie rods off of the donor vehicle? The 85 axles were narrower than the newer trucks and used shorter tie rods. If you get the rods off of the donor, they will bolt right up and be the correct length.

Yeah, if you replaced a D28 with a D35 your steering linkage is too short.

Everything is longer on the D35 setup because the axle is WIDER

BTW, the "pitman arm" is the arm on the steering box
the arms on the outboard ends are the "steering arm "
which is a part of the "Steering knuckle"
