I am bringing a 1990 ranger 2.3 out of retirement, It has 141,000 showing on the clock and apears to be in decient shape. I have a problem though and:nono: would like some help. It starts fine but very slow throttle response. no power going down the road. and it seems to get faster when you let off the gas. also ran it for about 20 min or so and the exhaust manifold was glowing red. could it be running lean? What do you all think? Thanks in advance for the help.

Check all your fluid levels man, there are tons of possibiltys... Might need oil or have a blown head gasket, thats what mines got. Any smoke? Check a plug, whats it look like? I'm not sure about the exhaust manifold though, someone else will have to chime in there.

Good luck!

i would say the timing is off. did someone install a new timing belt just before it was parked? i have seen this happen when the cam is a couple teeth off.
