ranger refit/build thread

I'd love to see the rebuild of the truck with the new frame rails and the king cab.

these 2 posts, imply that on a twin stick truck, you can put the transfercase into fwd

in true 4WD terms.....twin stick = 2 sticks for the transfer case.....one to control Hi and Low, the other for front or rear output...

NOT a stick for the transfer case and a stick for the tranny.....as seen on other forums that cater to the " Mall Crawler " crowd ...:icon_rofl:

Pretty close, John. To clarify, one stick is to control the front output from either low, neutral, or high, and the second stick is to control the rear output from either low, neutral, or high. Both sticks are controlled independantly from each other...:icon_thumby:

this is correct.

so the answer is yes to it leaving catastrophic failure as a constant option before this actually sets in.

'catastrophic failure' is always an option:headbang:

that's how we learn stuff:icon_thumby:

rather..if one needs to ask...is this leever a?

hmm...if you have to ask, you should stick to using leever-be

:D cant help it...i am a fargin driller...cant help myself..:D

if i go to a twin 205, no one will drive it anymore unless i am in it.:icon_surprised:

that's just it....no one will(or can)drive my truck but me.

call it the ultimate theft deterrant.

thank you both for the clarification!

i can, but i'll just hope to god that you left the thousand sticks in their "driving" position... i'm sure i can figure out which one is your transmission...

The normal one, on the back if the engine lol!

i know that, the first one... the one that is bolted TO the motor (not to another tranny)

with even 1000 transmissions, there should be a gear on each of them, which is a 1:1 ratio, and if all of them are in 1:1, you can pick any of the transmissions to shift like a normal truck, and it will be a normal 5 speed, running through gears at the normal pace (or 3 speed, or 4 speed... which ever transmission you pick)

this is exactly the case...and it made me realise something about the operation of this rig.when i had the auto behind the engine that pretty much had to be my main tranny.of course this meant that i was always running a multiplied torque through the auxillary transmissions when accellerating.

by going to a manual trans behind the engine,it doesn't really matter which one i chose as the main one.if i use the last trans in the line as my primary then everything behind it will be in 1:1,substantially reducing the load on the drivetrain in normal driving.i'll still have all the gear options, but less load for the majority of driving.

so i guess i'll be using a 4 speed as the main trans.the 5speed can be a range selector.

.... what would happen if you ran like 4 auto trans all end to end?

i'm thinking that the you won't turn the last one fast enough to get the fluid pumping... unless you used a solid torque converter on all of them, except the first... then it should work pretty well...
