i have a 94 ranger 4.0, will a 94 exploder ECM fit in my truck

i have a horrible random misfire and i have eliminated everything except the ECM
its most likely my hyper chip, i have literally replaced every single sensor in my truck, tune ups, anything you can think of. i have adequate fuel pressure, i have spark, but must not be a good one. but, i have replaced EVERYTHING.

the only thing i havnt replaced would be timing chain. but it runs fine sometimes but most of the time doesnt even wanna go over 35 even with it crammed to the floor.

so its down to ECM. return the truck to stock, get rid of the hyper chip. put stock injectors, stock maf, stock everything back in

will exploder computer work in my truck?

I'd say it can't hurt to try. If the trucks are the same year and and have the same sensors the computer won't know what it's in. There might be rpm difference if the trannys are not the same. But this is all conjecture on my part as I've never done it.
Good luck,

Richard

yea, my truck had an explorer engine in it and my other ranger has a explorer trans in it, so i dont see why a computer out of it wont work. lol

well i put the exploder ECM into my ranger, it fixed my driving problem so far, but overloads like crazy at idle, BUT i removed my aftermarket MAF and put stock on, but my aftermarket injectors are still in, which would explain the overloading and fuel out of the exhaust pipe at idle. but drives fine for the time being.

Glad you got it fixed:yahoo:. It looks like you know more than me about F.I., but in case, after you get it how you want, I'd replace the o2 sensors. I think all that raw fuel will maybe screw them up, and the cat. Though I don't really know how excess fuel can harm the o2 sensor:icon_confused:. If anyone can explain, I'd like to learn. Now that I've over-thought this, back to you:icon_rofl:

All that raw fuel can toast the catalytic converter.

yea i know it can trash a converter, lol.

i grabbed the computer out of a 5 speed exploder, 2 5 spd exploders in the junk yard and 25 automatics and i grab the ****ing manual one, so i dont have over drive.... haha, but im gonna go back sunday and get a automatic one. lol.

but all in all. over 5 months of running issues, finally getting somewere with it.
$1,000 in parts later, finally getting some results. lol.

will keep you guys updated on how it goes replacing the big injectors back to stock ones, and getting the right ECM.

haha, now i can go back to body work.... and putting in more work on my turbo ranger. LOL, each winter is dedicated to the 2wd. lol

a 1994 Explorer is almost certainly an EGR/SEFI 4.0 engine.

a 1994 Ranger is likely NOT...

Does your Ranger have EGR?

If it does NOT have the EGR pipe & Valve and the DPFE sensor
on the upper intake then what you want to look for is very specifically a 1993 Non-Cali Explorer as a computer donor.

Remember you can use an Auto trans computer temporarily on a 5sp truck with only relatively minor issues, but a 5sp computer on an auto truck has major issues (you will get NEITHER TCC lockup or a 3-4 shift)

yea i drove it all today with no 4th gear. i knew it was coming because iv been through this before.

but wut do u mean by TCC lockup?

maybe thats why it seems like sometimes my trans feels like its slipping but i dont think it is. this could explain it.

Controls overdrive?

Richard

on a 1988 or later A4LD the computer controls BOTH the 3-4 shift and the Torque Converter Clutch. they are s-e-p-e-r-a-t-e controls.

most poeople wouldn't notice the TCC NOT locking up but the lack of 4th gear is harder to not notice.
