Hey guys im new here, and uh, i was thinking of doing a huge ranger project, i am going to drop a V8 302 into a (about) 94 Ranger, and im going to put a dually on it, since some of you have done this, i was wondering what would be some good Rear ends to use? all Makes, 4.10 ratio, this is going into a 4x4, but i need to find a 5speed to attach to the 302, but will work with the dually rear end. can you guys please help me with this, im looking for what ever help you guys can offer me.

so youre actually doing a rear axle swap from a dually? do you plan on swapping the front to a full size also?

ya, ill have to switch it out to a 4.10 front axle of some sort in order to not blow it in 4x4. like i said thats why i want everyones opinion, so i do it right and not F it up, but with the tires wight cut in half, i would have to find a way to make my back end heavier. i think if i use a double role bar, with 3'' tubing and a custom rear bumber it might help a little bit. im going to do this on a 2wd ranger first, to see how it looks you know, if i like the feeling on it maybe ill do it to the 4x4 one.

i would like to put a dually in the back, but i dont know what all i will need to change in order to not blow something.

not trying to sound like a jerk at all but you sound very new to this whole idea. The search tool is your friend, all i can say is research, research, reasearch! and when you find all the info that you can and you still have questions, thats when you start a thread. Good luck Though!

of course, i have been researching this for like 2 weeks, but you see i cant find nothing, and its pissing me off, like, i try to find simple things like what axles i should use, or such things, but i cant find anything, and all my info has been from here, and still its not helping, and ya i just want to know from your guys experiance and what not so i can do this right and not mess it up.

i believe theres a 4x4 ranger on here thats got a 7.3 powerstroke in it. the guy who built it is billydiesel, if i remember right he made it a dually and integrated a stepside bed onto a normal bed to make the dually fenders.

Interesting, i want to use a only a 302, carbarated. so, yes but uh how did he do such a thing, like to make it into a dually, i want to know things like what axle did he use and what all did he have to modify?

Engine/Transmission compatibility is a far more important concern than Transmission/axle compatibility. There are almost no issues beyond finding a drive shaft there, and a good shop can make one.

Now what is you purpose to making this a dually? Do you want it for looks, or for capability. If you just want looks, go find a Toyota Buddy, rob the rear end and remember that you just weakened the rear of your truck when you put things in the bed. If you want capability and don't want to go through rear axle seals and bearings like they are going out of style, you will need to find a full-float rear and get it cut down.

Ya, if im going to do it, im going to use the floater, its like a "becouse i can" Project, but if i am going to do it, i might as well do it right so ya, anyone know what 5 Speed will fit behind a 302? and should i use a Chevy Rear end? or stay with the Ford one?

I'd go with a Dana 60 full float rear, a Tremec T-5, and an FI setup on the engine instead of a carb.

i would like to use FI, but my father knows Carbs like the back of his hand, so i would be able to learn them a little better, but FI would probly be better, but i would need all the Computer stuff to go with it wouldnt i? i have not heard of a Tremec T-5, what is that?

FI is far easier than carb, but yes, you'd need the computer and everything. Check your local laws on that one. In a lot of places it's not legal to put a carbed engine in a vehicle that came with FI.

The Tremec was the trans that Ford put behind the 5.0 for years and it is a good trans. The full sized M5OD might be less work, but it's not as strong.

As for learning about carbs, aside from something to do with your dad, it has no real-world applications.

Sorry, Dana 80. I knew what I mean.

They come in most Ford Super Duty trucks with the dually rear.
