Ranger Dually Project

chevy 14 bolt rear ends are a dime a dozen, and in cab and chassis trucks they are narrower than pickup bed trucks

Sorry, Dana 80. I knew what I mean.

They come in most Ford Super Duty trucks with the dually rear.

Ahh The Dana 80 that would make more sence then, would i have to shorten up the Dana 80? by much at all?

do you know what vehicles i could find the computer and 5.0 in? i think in the 97 Ford F-150, that should be a good engine to steal, (carb would be so much better less computer sh** and cheaper) anyone know what all else i should need to pull this off?

could you post a picture for me, so i know what to hunt down next time im walking through SGI Salvage, or some reckors, im making a whole file with pictures and stuff ill need to do this

For starters, cool idea. Second, go with a ZF trans. It's the more desired tranny to go behind a SBF. If you're bent on running a 5.0, try and find a V8 Explorer and take the whole shebang. Personally, I'd run a 351 if I were going to make a dually Ranger. Corporate 14 bolts truly ARE a dime a dozen out there. I know people that have probably three or four just hanging around the back 40. But it's a GM axle...

Do a dually Ranger search on here, I've seen at least three in the last year or two.

My old man is the one pushing the 302, i wanted the windsor 351, a ZF? 5 speed? SBF? sorry some of the i have never even heard of, the V8 exploder, what year? 97? Corporate, Chevy? i assume. i dont mind using someone elses axle either, Most of the info i have been getting for my project has come from here looking at other dually mods, but no one actaully talks about how they did it. (just realized how stupid i sound for not knowing alot of this^)

Alright i think i got this figured, V8 FI From a 97 Explorer Attached to a Tremec T-5 and for the Dually, a Dana 80 Full floating Rear end. does that sound right to you guys? i think that should work. I hope it does, now were to find all this for Very cheap... Hate having a Broke mans Budget

A ZF is a five speed, yes. SBF means small block Ford. Do some research on the T-5 versus the ZF on full-size forums, I'm sure you'll figure out which one suits your application.

Well, any dually except the Toyota Buddy axle is gonna need to be shortened significantly.

96 was the last year for the 5.0 in an F-series. If you grab a 97+ you are looking at the Triton engines, not the small blocks, unless you find a 97 "F-250" which was a 150 body, a 250 suspension, and a 351W.

As for carb stuff being "cheaper" or "better", I disagree. I'm building a 5.0 for my mom's Mustang and I had a set of bad FI stuff and no carb stuff. I priced out both systems, and for anything worth having, it was about the same. EFI is easier to set up and more reliable, so unless you already have the carb parts, EFI is probably the better route to go. But then, a lot of guys will say that's an opinion.

Triton was a big block? how does it cost to do a EFI system? and im thinking i can pull the EFI out of a 97 Explorer, that one should have what i need, but will the computers couse me much of a problem and what all will i need to take to make the engine work?

and i think im going to use a Dana 80, or a Chevy 14 bolt, what ever i find for cheaper and happens to fall into my lap. anyone here use a 351 in a ranger? thats a big small block, does it fit quite well? or do i have to cut anything?

d60 dually rear, d60 front with kingpins. get at it dude, this would be an awesome project

:icon_rofl:

actually, FI IS much easier then carb, u dont have to tune your FI system for changes in temperature, or altitude, or worry about running on redic steep angles.

there isnt many wires to make something fuel injected, its everything else that is alot of wires lol

yeah when its working right it is easier, but maintaining it is a world of difference, having owned both, id rather have carb anyday
