My 97 2.3L manual transm. ran all day today fine. i went to a restaurant to eat dinner and came back out and it wouldn't start. when i turn the key, the engine just clicks loud one time and the parking brake light flashes on. the engine doesn't turn over at all. the battery is fine, jumping the vehicle did not work however, push starting it worked fine. I have to get started working on it tomorrow so im trying to figure out where to start (no pun intended). Im thinking its a starter/solenoid/clutch safety switch problem. Can someone let me know if you have had similar issues.

ground or power wire from battery is corroded, guaranteed to be if battery is god

update

checked grounds, no problems there, tested battery, no problems. decided to drive it to the parts store to continue. (as my girlfriend called it, I Flinstoned it to start it up) the fender coil was clicking so i proceeded to check the solenoid/starter, i got under my truck to check power to the solenoid with my tester, reached up, grabbed the solenoid, and yanked it right off! the ground on the solenoid was completely frayed and worn away and the bolts holding it to the starter were gone!
*purses lips and puts tester away*:annoyed:
A $100 new starter later, im good to go. :icon_thumby:

Unfortunately, this is a very common problem...I used to get by on these things without a tester...just wiggle wires and look...but the tester does help...sometimes...
