I've been having an on-going issue with a rain water leak. Just to give a bit of history, I noticed it a couple of weeks back. I dried out the carpet and continued to monitor it closely hoping I could see some sign of where the water was entering from. The only collection point of the water is the driver side floor.
So began the process of elimination.
I've owned this truck since new and it still had the original windshield. It has 3 minor rock chips, so I opted to get the windshield replaced. It pissed with rain a day later, and water was still making its way in.
Another idea I had was that my amp power wire and alarm hood pin wire were to blame. They are both going through the firewall plug and hadn't been properly sealed with silicon. I have noticed quite a bit of water flowing under the hood and it could have been possibly dripping on to the wires and flowing through into the cab. So I caked 'em with sealant.
Every year I have made a point of spraying silicon lube on all of the weather stripping everywhere on the truck, making a point of using quite a bit on the doors. It seems to keep it moist/plyable/water resistant. After the windshield was replaced I thoroughly did this again.
I thought that it could also be one or all of the drains on the corner panels, even the long hollow channel that follows the panels under both sides of the cab. They were both completely caked SOLID with sand/dirt. It took some scrapping and blasting with the garden hose, and I managed to get that clog-free.
Water is still getting in...
I removed some trim and pulled up the carpet. The drain plug is still nicely attached in the floor. There was no water trail anywhere. One of the first places I checked was the third brake light. There really doesn't seem to be any water flowing from it. No wet carpet other than drivers side floor.
My other thought is something to do with the wiper blade cowl. From the looks of it, it is welded in place and not easily removable. I figured that dirt/debris have maybe clogged proper drainage within. No way to tell though.
I do have a diagram from a parts guy at Ford and it shows a plug/gasket within the cowl assembly.
I'm open to any help I can get here. I gotta stop this leak before my truck grows mildew!
I'll attach a bunch of pics of my truck. 2008 Ranger XLT 4L 4x4 supercab.
