radio and speedo problems

97 ranger, purchased new in oct of 96. It has been a great truck and still is. sometime back the speedo quit working off and on, now the radio has also quit except for popping sounds and an short time working. I plan on going into the units soon, but thought u all would have some advice? The cruise control works fine so I think the sending unit i ok.

Any advice

For the speedometer, the cluster has that flexible circuit board that is connected to the gages with metal spring clips. They can loose their tension and not make a connection anymore.

Thanks for the help on the speedo, I am going to pull it apart this weekend and look it over.
One more item, trying to get the radio out, I have the two u shaped tools to insert into the front of the unit, but just won't come out. Something required?

Put the tools in until they click, then spread the tools outward and pull. You’ll get it.
