rack & pinion with I-beams

Up until it hit my frame or oil pan.:icon_rofl:

i think that's what you mean? yeah that would cause an issue too... i'm sure someone makes a box with a higher ratio... try an older sports car... early model camaros, mustangs, vettes... they should all be more or less the same style box, but i would imagine that they would have a higher ratio... vettes especially, they were a highway car... how about porche? i don't know if they even used conventional steering boxes, but i would imagine they would...

i'm sure a local shop could probably modify the internals of yours for a higher ratio, but that's all money... the pitman arm idea 1) would work, and 2) would be cheap, which is why i suggested it

Anyone ever try running Single swing steering on there street trucks? It would be pretty cool to see someone use it on a street truck even though it is designed for trucks with 20" of usable travel haha!

This would actually be awesome for some of the air bag guys..

Dave maybe you should send some swingers to the chrome shop..

Single swing with a 1:2 steering quickener would probably work quite well..

:icon_confused:

But back to the topic...

The inner tie rod pivot points on a rack and pinion setup would be horrible for a TIB vehicle..

TIB's aren't all that street friendly.

If its the steering box you are having trouble with as far as clearence issues.. Find a smaller box out of something else? Or move it forward and work it out from there with a swing set setup.

If your wanting a performance increase.. Adapt this concept to dream beam cruiser... Be sure to use 1.75" tubing for the tie rods.. :icon_rofl: I'm just kidding, it was damn near impossible to get them to clear. I put a little more in the driver side bend then I had wanted..

that single swing steering, that's one super simple sounding name for a confusing as hell concept!

It is super simple. It took 4.5 hours to set it all up..

Although single swing on a TTB will not reach perfection..
The only way to get a TTB front end to cycle as best as it can is to do a dual swinger setup.. The pitman arm just isn't in the best spot for the passenger side tie rod inner pivot point.

I believe on TIB's it is though...

Can you use rack & pinion on an I-beam front suspension?

there are pros and cons depending what rack you use, i have seen many types of racks in rbv.

JUST PUT A LONGER PITMAN ARM ON lT, IT WILL TURN YOU FASTER!!!

Not enough to make a noticable differnce.................

Well in my case it was actually noticeable.

Putting a Skyjacker FA600 arm on which has less of an *arm* to it than the regular FA400 by about 1.5" makes a very noticeable difference in how quick the steering seems to reach its extremes.

When I had the shorter FA600 on there steering was slow and seemed to take forever to get to either end of the spectrum. Whereas with a FA400 it seems much *quicker*.
