OK guys on my rack and pinion I’ve got a tube that leads to nothing from the passenger side over to the driver side behind the main bracket of the frame. Is there supposed to be a flex hose attached to this or what’s going on here?

alright , i’m not gonna worry about it then. i’ll pull the boots and grease them. 🤷🏼‍♂️ thank you.

If that's what it is, you don't want to leave it missing. That will allow dirt and water to get in and destroy parts.

The tube that attaches to each inner tie rod boot is the vent. It allows air to move as the boot expands/collapses. It should travel from one boot to the other.

Either i cap the one side , or get a new rack and pinion. the one side boot is a tight fit, the other side has that plastic gizmo holding the tube .
second hand problems are a nightmare.

Capping one side will likely last right up until you steer, then blow off.

I’ve used 1/4” brake line to make a new piece to connect the two boot vents.

lol, i would , but the one side doesn’t even have the boot vent . 🫣 guess imma run it into the ground and get a new one when it fails

Sounds like somebody replaced one of the boots and used the wrong kind.

is the boot rotated to where the vent is hidden? long shot, but at least cheap

the boots can be replaced without taking the rack out.
undo the tie rod, count & mark it, twist it off. slide boot off.
