Question on 302 with GT40P heads, and 1.7 rockers; I want a cam now

Thank you for that chart Teddy! I seem to remember hearing the 87 and 88 cams were different from each other (ever so slightly). The 88's were always a little quicker than the rest.

It looks like I have some figuring to do. I love me a project!

I've often wondered if those duration specs are correct for the HO grinds, with the intake having 10 degrees more duration than the exhaust. You virtually never see that in an aftermarket grind. Your perception about the 88 being quicker is likely due to some other factor than the slight change in cam specs. And actually the specs were only done late in the 88 model year. And when it was implemented the HP numbers were decreased by 3

I've seen that on the change late in 88. It was done to quiet some valvetrain noise IIRC.

I'm not the only one who thinks the 88's were quicker:

It's probably an urban myth type thing. The 86 Stangs were quicker in the 1/4 mile than the later ones (87-95)

I've owned an 86 GT, it was a quick little car. They have the "swirl" heads, which really make torque down low. When I owned it, I already had stuff done to my 89, so I don't know which was quicker in stock form. This was the car I did the AOD to T5 conversion on.

Here's a pic, FWIW. I should have taken a lot more photos of it.

According to Ford the 86's were slightly quicker in the 1/4 because of the E6 heads. (in stock form) But everyone wanted more and the E6's are tapped out in stock form.
