i just got a set of used 31x10.5(15in rims) for my 1988 ranger ext cab 4x4 can someone tell me if they will fit or am i going to have to lift the truck i plan to put them on as soon as i get the 4wd working i think the push button went bad but i would just like to know ahead of time that way i can get the lift i need before hand and save myself some time thanks

Post a photo of the truck so we can see what it looks like. If the suspension is in ok shape and being that old it might have some sag to it. I put 33x12.5's on my 83 Ranger with a 4 inch lift and a 3 inch BL. It looked really nice.

Here is my factory stock 83 2.8 L motor with standard trans. This photo was taken the week I bought it in California. I bought it in late 84 out in California from the original owner with 10,000 miles on it:

Then I lifted it as seen below. I had to update the gears and add stuff to it as well as you can see. I took it wheeling a bunch of times and really liked the way it was set up and handled. I drove it back to Tampa and back to California a few times and wheeled on the way as well at Moab. I drove it back to Tampa when I got stationed a USSOCOM for the rest of my enlistment. I had the truck for over 12 years. It never let me down. Great truck!!!

wow that a polaroid? retro, I like it! Probably not relavent, but i run 31's stock on my 96.

worse comes to worse you look in the tech library and do the washer mod for the front and a 1" block or add a leaf or explorer rear leafs

they won't fit stock on a first gen as they'll rub in the front, rear isn't an issue.

The washer lift might lift it enough to clear, or trimming the front fenders as that's what's tight...

Yes, good eye. I had a Polaroid camera until about 4 years ago. I sold it on Ebay for $150 believe it or not. Try to find film!!! Back in 80's Polaroid camera were still around...lol I took a lot of polaroid pictures of a lot of car shows and people loved them...like you said...retro!!!

Yes, some Ranger can run 31's with stock suspension. But several buddies I know could not on their 94 or 95's without some rubbing. I also think it has a lot to due to the suspension. Is it tired and sagging, or is it still tight? That is why I asked him to post a photo of his truck.

31's will rub a little on your truck if it is like mine. Best thing to do is level out the front.

Btw just some food for thought! The electronic shift motor is a piece of shit! I threw that thing out and bought a "Shiftster" for like 60 bucks! I havent had any problems since! Itll save you a lot of heartache in the future lemme tell you!

yeah if you enjoy getting under your truck to put it in 4x4...
i have an electric shift t/case and once i cleaned the motor and got it working right its been fine since... yeah that was 5 years ago so.... :thefinger:

and if you happen to need it and it not work, you can still shift it by hand under it, just take the motor out of the way and put it in the position you need it, remount motor to keep crap out.

I could not keep mine working.. I just have to lean under no big deal.. And I would much rather have a reliable method of shifting in and out of ranges than being stuck taking 3 bolts off and changing the setting with plyers and putting 3 bolts back in!

my buddy has 31's on his stock first gen with no rubbing so it will work

ok tried to load it again i think i got it this time this is the picture of my ranger it looks to me like it sittiing pretty stout but i'm by far not an expert. I may go ahead with the 3 or 4 inch lift cause your ranger actually sits right about how high I would like mine to sit i dont want too much cause i spend most of my time on the road back and forth to work but once in a while like to take it off road untill the 4wd stopped working. but i wasn't sure if that was what I wanted to do or not as this is the first 4wd ranger i have had and i do all the work myself so this is all uncharted territory for me and can someone tell me as to where I can get a new push button cause none of the stores around here have it and all the junkyards are two wheel drive rangers thanks

just cuz your 4 wheel drive doesn't work doesn't mean you can't take it off road. I take my stock 2wd on 30's wheelin all the time and have never gotten stuck!
