It's less reliable than a lever, yes. It's not a terrible system once a couple changes are made, though. The motor case is usually clocked too far clockwise by a couple degrees and the stop bushing gets crushed. Make a new bushing from a zip-tie, rubber tube, anything more rugged than the plastic that was there, and clock it, and it will work great. Also, seal it up good when you're done and water won't affect it. Mine has no issues, and will engage with my headlights under water.
