Pulling motor

nope didnt unbolt the torque converter. all i did was unbolt the engine from the transmission and pulled it.

While its out swap heads from a 90, replace the cam bearings and thrust plate and port the intake and heads. Once you've done that it will run like a 4.0L and last.

ill keep that in mind. i just replaced one of the heads and had the other resurfaced when i blew my head gasket. kinda wanna leave this motor alone and stock. keep it as a back up if i decide to run a v8.

I'm tell'n ya man.... at least swap the heads for a set from a 90'.
They are redesigned and do not suffer from poor lubrication and cooling problems and have added material where it counts. They wont crack like the ones you have now if they over heat. You want to do the cam bearings and thrust plate while you have it out as well. thats a bomb waiting to go off. They wear fast due to the cam thrust washer seeping. They were that way from the factory. You invert the thrust washer and it will hold pressure MUCH better. Change the cam bearings and you wont have to remove the heads again later to do it when they eventually fail . and they WILL fail. Matter of time homey.
You have her out, sounds like you have plenty of time to mull it over and to take your time if and when you decide to do it. I would even blink at the thought. I'd do it.

i would totally do it if i had the money. right now i have no clue how im going to buy an oil pump. for now its just going to sit in the garage waiting. and hopefully one of these shops around town considers me and gives me a job.

I feel you pain brother. So does half the country :(
Been there and done that before.
Wish you the best of luck. I am sure something will come along.
