Project SVT

You and me both! I've been trying to install the 1356 for over a week now. Things keep coming up that takes me off of getting it done. I hope to get a chance to work on it tomorrow morning for about an hour. Hopefully I'll at least get that done...

SVT

I know the feeling. I did start modifying the steering shaft on D to hopefully have steering when I get the axle in.

Well, as my luck would have it, the hour I planned on spending on SVT was spent on the phone with my cell phone carrier getting my bill straightened out. I also got hit by a deer in my Trac, so looks like I'll be doing some body and fender work tomorrow, but that'll be covered in my trac's thread...

SVT

Nope, I added a line to my plan, and my plan got mixed up when I activated it. I got it straightened out, but I had to deal with the automated system a couple times before I finally got to an actual person, which wasn't Indian.or non English speaking. After all is said and done, I even got a $60 credit from them. I'm not complaining at all :icon_thumby:

Sounds like a good time to do a conversion...

It is, and I am. Just got all the parts in. Gonna start today...

Update something!! Either this or the trac or whatever that other massive thing u were building

he'll be updating my thread next week

LOL, Kris, you could say that. Shop's open, and I've been busy working on customer's vehicles. I've got the y2k V8 TJ that I started the swap on at father in laws a year or so ago at my shop now for some more work, doing a supercharger install, hydroboost swap, and need to adjust pinion angle and probably change out and fab some custom shackles for the rear leaf spring swap. Also been building a small dump trailer. With all that's going on, sadly SVT has been put on the back burner, waiting patiently to be the next one worked on. I gotta get him at meat moving under its own power by RangerFest which is July 19. 2 or 3 good days on him and I should have him going under its own power, its just getting that time to do it. 3 days a week I'm also playing taxi getting my little sister to and from a local college, so my wrench time is really limited. I got D coming here this Saturday for an engine install and also delivering some parts for project HWW. The Trac will be getting another facelift soon as I'm also collecting parts for that, but he Trac needs it after another deer wiped out the front the same day of nearly completing the front clip swap. Thanks to Josh for keeping his eyes open and spotting a hood for me :icon_thumby:

Thank you Rick for getting D driveable again

So, maybe this was asked, but I didn't want to go 23 pages in, but when you dropped the engine in, did you have to do anything to the truck harness or the heater box?

Love the truck, and now I want to do this to mine, I am looking at buying a 97 Explorer, same year as the Ranger, and swap it over.

I take it I can't use the T-case from my 4 liter truck on the 5 liter swap?

Sorry for the newb questions, but just now kind of deciding I want to do this, and need to start planning up lol

No problem, Richard. You won't learn if you don't ask, right? Actually, every detail of the engine swap is explained in the first post. The main plug C115 (the 42 pin plug on top the motor, it connects the engine and ECU to the rest of the truck) is a plug n play deal, the C149 plug (12 pin oval plug near the abs pump) will need repinning, but that's covered as well. The alternator harness can be reused but I redid mine using the explorer fuselinks. The starter harness you will have to use the explorer One, as its longer. On 95+ rangers, the heater box is shaped just like the V8 explorers, so no mods needed. Tcase won't work, depending on your fab skills and parts availability, you have a few Tcase choices. Where in TN are you working, I might be able to help you out...

Updates on SVT will finally commence on Monday. He's got a big show/event coming up that he's hosting next weekend in Saint Louis. For those that will be near STL the weekend of the 19th-21st and want to check him out, pm me for details...
