Project SVT

I need to update that lol I was working out of Rogersville, and living in Kingsport. Back in Washington state now.
I didn't see anything on wiring the first time, I will recheck that, I did see your alternator and starter wiring parts, but not the main harness. I can do any repinning needed, so thanks for the info! I actually have the factory manuals for the Exploder and Ranger, so that should make it easy. I have rear ABS only, and would like to go 4 wheel, I know what I need for that, but is it needed with this swap to make it not throw a code?

I haven't researched transfer cases much, what do you recommend and why? Preference is that it bolts in, works with the switch on my dash, and it has better then a 2.72 crawl ratio. But all can be switch as needed. As I am well aware some custom work is needed, I am a diesel mechanic and fabricator by trade, so I can do anything I need to do to make it work, but I like simple sometimes, and since I drive the truck a lot, simple is how I'd like it, easier to find parts and replace parts when they are FUBAR'd. Thank gourd I don't have to mod the heater box! I hate that crap lol It always ends up a mess and more time that I don't want to spend. Easy clean up in time, but I'd rather do the least as possible!

Check the alternator part again, that's where the repinning is required. As far as the Tcase, your not going to get better than 2.72 unless you either go with a doubler or an aftermarket case like atlas. As far as using the stock 4x4 switch, your down to basically two choices, the 1356 and the 4406, I recommend the 56, as you can take your ranger Tcase motor and bolt it right on any electric 56 case, but if you can get one from a bronco, that's your best bet. This will give you your simplicity you want, with functionality. You won't need a real deep low range ratio anyway with the extra torque of the V8...

The 1356 came behind the F series trucks from 86-96, so finding one isn't hard. IIRC, the ratio is 2.69, but its close enough. There were two versions, the trucks have the slip yoke rear output, the Bronco has the fixed yoke rear output. The fixed yoke is the style you want. The only mods you need to do to get this to fit is either slightly notch the framerail or move the trans to the passenger side about an inch or less....

Why not get an Advanced Adapters adapter and adapt your trans to the 1354?

I did - 10,000 miles so far, no problems.

The nice thing is the driveshafts fit, since the t-case is in the stock location.

Well that's easy enough, I know where a Bronco is sitting right now! lol Does this still work with the electronic shifter for the T-case, or am I going to have to go manual? Less work the better lol
If you get an electric 1356 out of a full size bronco, then all you have to do is remove the shift motor, cut the two wires going into the housing, and install the shift motor from your ranger Tcase. Bolts right up, and the plug will match your ranger plug, since it originally came from that. I did this in my sport Trac build and docuemented it, pretty easy...

That is an idea, but not a budget friendly one. It's at least $500 just for the adapter, then you need to take apart your tranny to install it, providing one can do it themself. If not, then its basically the cost of a rebuild. That could be another $500 for that. I'm sure a pair of driveshafts could be made for less than a grand. Would the ranger case hold up, absolutely. Is it cost effective route, not so much. But definitely an option...

Well, SVT was completely finished, but he was put back together just enough to get running under its own power and make the FocusFest/Ranger Roundup show in STL this past weekend. We had an absolute blast going and hosting the event. We had a lot attend, close to 200 not counting mustangs or spectators. Next year will be even bigger! Pics from the event to follow. Still getting them sorted out and uploaded...

sweet build man. truck looks bitchin.

Quick question, how much more tire coverage did you get with those flares you installed from summit? When my truck gets here i have to do an annual inspection of the rig to register it and tires arent supposed to stick out past the body, and im not reallin feelin big bulky flares. what you did definitely seems the route i wanna take if they hassle me about it. I'm sure I'll have more questions for ya once i read more of your thread, You do pretty awesome work. :headbang:

Thanks, they cover about 2" per side. What you can do is get the wide flares to do the inspection, then install the smaller ones after. I know its more work, but sometimes a little extra work is needed. That or put a set of smaller tires on for inspection. I've made a couple trips since those were installed, tree rubs are great, they just conform around the tree, then go back to original shape. I love em. As for SVT, I'm building another truck ( HWW ) and gathering parts for the next phase...

Yah I've thought of all those methods. Even thought of gettin some lawn edging material just for inspection. But 2 inches should be about right tho. And that's a cheap and functional way of doin it that looks pretty good. I also like that I'll have enough left over in case I ever wanna trim my fenders a little for some 37s.

Once you start, you won't stop. Lol. I was going to SAS using an eb 44, then I upgraded to fw 44, then 8 lug 44, then a king pin high pinion 60 before I even got the eb axle in. Well, I'm doing it again, I was going to go with 2.5 ton rockwells, then I was looking at 5 ton rockwells, and well, looks like I'm going bigger than that. But I'm not letting the cat out of the bag just yet. I still haven't located them yet, but I'm searching...

Yah... Noted. Ha. I've only had my rig for a year. And it's got lots and lots of money into it. And now that I started I can't stop lol.

Awesome! I'll definitely be following this thread to see what ideas you can corrupt me with for my rig!
