I have a 97 ranger with a 2.3 inline 4 cyl
My business partner has a 00 mustang base model v6
ported heads
ported intake
ported throttle body
roller rockers
roughly 280 hp

im swaping the engines

the only changes that i have to make is to the motor mounts about 75 bucks for the set

im throwing a standard cobra quick spool turbo on it
dual exhaust with the quietest mufflers i can find
im looking for the sneak up on you and blow your doors off as opposed to
loud in your face that is the other project i have (not for this forum)
i have a possi for the rear end and probably put 373 gears in the rear
opinions welcome
im removing the leaf springs in that back and going coil-overs
swaping the guts of a t5 to a c5 for durability

That is pretty much it for the proformance section of the project
changes will include
body kit (havent made up my mind yet but i dont want anything to ricy)
Black paint
Cobra rims
gt leather heated and power seats
power windows
power locks and alarm system/remote start
dvd head unit recessed into the dash
all black dash and floor board
cable clutch change from a hydralic clutch (to long of a step to shift for my liking)
step petal ebrake transfer to hand lever
im looking for a custom stationary console and a custom shifter
i hate how long the throw is on the shifter i have now but a couple bent pieces of metal will fix that
im putting Blue led under the gauges to get rid of the ugly green color that they are right now

estimated cost is about 2000 i have just about everything for the performance side of the truck now i have to work on finding the right interior pieces im looking for

Pics soon to come (when i figure out how to put them on here lol)
If anyone has any ideas or comments feel free i love critisism
im only 19 years old and im doing this on my own so if there is anything i have to watch out for i would appreciate a heads up

Throw up a thread in the build section with lotsa pictures, sounds like a cool idea.

Like gribly said, make a build thread in the build section.

Some of your modifications sound interesting and I'd like to see them.

A couple of them, I'm curious about:
What is "standard cobra quick spool turbo"?
How do you swap "the guts of a t5 to a c5" A T5 is a manual transmission and a C5 is an automatic transmission.

If you want to sneak up on people, I would probably scratch the dual exhaust and body kit as those things (along with wheels) make a vehicle stand out.

In looking for a center console, some Rangers came with them but they are plentiful in Explorers that fit. I pulled one from about a '98 Explorer to put in my '90 Ranger.

What's your other loud in your face project? We have a non-RBV build thread area as well, and I'm sure people on here would enjoy seeing it. So post up!

+1
I would like to know how that works exactly. Maybe its just me (Im not exactly an expert) but every automatic transmission Ive seen has planetary gear sets and clutches to create different gear ratios. And all the standard transmissions had 1 gear for every speed on a main shaft and the counter shaft. (except reverse which also has an idler gear)

Also What do you intend on bending to shorten the throw of your shifts?

This part is just my ignorance but since you didnt mention it do you plan on running the stock mustang computer? If so how is it going to react to the turbo? If at all? Or is it only changes to the to the cam and such that affect the way the computer reacts to the engine?

When you say you are removing the rear leafs for coil overs, do you mean that you plan on setting up some kind of link system with coil overs?

Other than that I think it should be a pretty neat build, cant wait to see pics.

PS. Not trying to be a dick just trying to understand.

Build thread?

I have looked for the build thread for awhile now and i can't seem to run into it. I made some mistakes on my original post and some of my plans have changed. I am swaping the guts of the t5 but not to a c5 it makes no sense, but i can with the tko500. like i said in the begining i am a beginner but for my age i know quit a bit of stuff. for the throw on the shifter i am having a guy customize a shifter not to make it a shorter throw but make the distance i have to reach to get into the odd gears a little closer. i have changed my mind (with a little help from my business partner) i have decided to go with a super charger instead of a turbo. If it was a rice burner i would have still went with the turbo but its american and i think i should go with the supercharger.
as for the coil overs i dont have any idea how its going to work but im doing research for a better suspension with a decent price. I havent had any luck yet but the coil overs are a little expensive and a lot of custom modifications that my skill level is no where near ready for. as soon as i get this bmw out of the shop i will be starting the build so expect pictures in about 3 weeks. its going to be a quick build because it is my everyday driver and i have to have it to drive back and forth to work. May 17 the engine will be in my garage and and i will be taking a million pictures. i want to start this project now but i have deadlines for work that come first im sure you know how that goes. But its a ford so its easy to work on.

Thanks for the posts everyone and please tell me how to get to the rbv build section of the forum im lost!lol

You're not going to run a turbo simply because of the country it came from?
Use the tranny that's coming out of the Mustang with the motor, if it held in a Mustang, it'll hold in a Ranger. Even with the extra power - you won't be able to hook up as well, and you don't sound like you're going to be spending your weekends at the strip with this so I somehow doubt the truck will see enough traction to break anything.

Hell, I have seen an M5OD hold up to 370hp at the flywheel with a crazy driver until he let the clutch out before the gears meshed all the way at 7k rpm in 2nd. It made a cool noise.
