Project: Moose-Knuckle

god this thread is so gay:thefinger:.This truck is finally being done the correct way with correct steering.

Adam I am happy you learned now lower that COG cut the crap out of it and start wheeling like a man!

PS I SHOULD be running 36s or 37s at some point over the summer with only 3 inches of lift! good bye wheel wells and fenders, hello low COG!

Chuck, I'm gonna be nettin close to 2 feet of wheel travel out of my front leaf pack now.

So eat it mr. low cog throttle out shit.

hahahah!

So mitch and I are pullin a knuckle from a 3/4 ton Chevy with an 8 lug D44, and swappin in everything from the U-joint out to my truck. It's got an aftermarket high steer arm that'll clear my leaf pack fo sho' and I'll run a drag link to the driver side. So only a few days left.

After I made that cross member i pulled a few leaves from my pack after deciding to go SOA again.

This is with mitch leaning off my side step holding onto my light bar. it's soft.

It's almost too soft for the road. Well, it is too soft for the road but what ever. It's flexy as hell. Pics to come.

i don't think you understand how wide this truck really is,it would be different if it was ifs and this tall but being this wide and tall has it sitting pretty damn stable, also he's got a 3 inch body lift so a lot of the cog is still pretty low it just looks tall.

The axles his is running are the EXACT same as the ones under my friends 79 f150 so I know exactly how wide it is. I do not recall seeing a total height measurement.

If i remember correctly including the body lift we netted about 9 or so inches or lift.so in reality take of that 3 inches and you've only got 6-7 inches of suspension lift which isn't tall for a solid axle truck,on top of that you've never riddin or drivin the thing.I have driven and riddin in it and it never once felt unstable or to tall, sure when you take a corner she leans but what truck thats worth a damn off road doesn't?

I just want to see pictures of the stupid thing on the trail! He has spent going on a year fawking around with the jeep now this! When I see some hard core trails mixed with some dents and NASTY stuck pictures I will be happy.

I wanna see this on the trail too,I've got as much time in this thing as the Adam does and I hate seeing it in the garage. We have a camping trip planned when we finally get the steering finished up,So far I have to say **** BALLJOINTS.

Now now boys, fight nicely.

It is pretty tall. I can't give an exact measuremeant to the lift but when I measured my tail gate next to my girlfriend's dad's ranger (Stock 02 4x4) it came to about 3.5 packs of 100s. That's including the 3" body lift.

So new news is news:

Mitch and I are in the process of a knuckle swap. The donor is coming from an 8 lug chevy dana 44 with a "lift" high steer arm. I guess that's what i'd call it. Instead of the usual chevy one curving down towards the axle tube, it heads up towards the pitman arm. It'll clear my leaf pack, so no need for a spacer and studs or an aftermarket arm.

In the future I'll swap a matching 8 lug knuckle to the passenger side (gonna carry two spares for now. oh well) and then wheel adaptors for the rear to take it from 5x5.5 to 8 lug.

The ball joints were pretty seized in the C, so a night of WD40, and a pickle fork mixed with a sledge hammer on top did the job in two wacks of frustration.

I have to revise my front shock mounts now but oh well. My drag link angle will be heavenly.

More to come.

I anticipate this thing has a LONG way to go and lots of trial and error ahead still.

You take a fully IFS vehical and swap a solid axle into it with an extremely limited budget and we'll see how long it takes your ass!

All in good fun.
