I got sick of dealing with jankety steering, couldn't afford a knuckle swap + high steer, got tired of having my truck down, so I dug in again.
So I'm in the process of going sprung under axle.
Oatmealman found me a cross member design. It'll re-vamp the 4 or so inches of height I'm loosing, and allow me to pull a leaf or two out of my thick pack, and run standard cross over easy as pie.
It's a piece of 3x6 square tube with .250" wall. It's got to cuts into it and it wedges up into the chassis. It's stout.
The chassis sits completely in the crossmember. Or vice versa.
Now I'm just down to making/finding hangers, and welding perches, and bolting it all back up. Oh yeah and running new tranny cooler hoses and a full fluid service.
But hell yeah.
The machine shop wanted 130 bucks to drill two holes in a piece of 1.5" bar and they couldn't tap them. I'm in 40 bucks now to a much better design.
It should be on the road again this weekend.
