Project Little Green Turd

Ya. Definitely suitable. Trails in Latrobe let you get as mild and wild as you want.

I had to remove my add a leaf because it gave me too much lift. Losing that height gave me no compression on those shocks. I think I could get almost full droop out of my rear if I just changed my shock location on the axle.

So basically they were so long that they didn't even compress over bumps and were basically gigantic bump stops?

Exactly. The shorter ones don't give me full droop, but my springs are way softer without that add-a-leaf.

I got the exhaust finished last night and the new solenoid in. I'm still getting a brief battery light when I first start the truck, so I have I figure that out. It comes on when I start it and then fades out.

it could be something to do with the icms power feed or starter, doesnt it start the truck with the icm then the pcm takes over after ignition?

I honestly have no idea. If it doesn't go away, I think i am going to start by cleaning all contact points and working from there

Ya. Ill get it figured out. Just one more thing to add to the old to do list. I just hope the regulator on the alternator isn't fried. In pretty sure that's what drives the indicator on the dash.

Took it for a drive yesterday. It definitely has some bump steer now, so I will have to work on that. The electrical problem turned out to be a bad ground on the starter due to rust bolts. Fortunately, the guy who inspected it had seen this problem before and quickly solved it. There is no replacement for experience!

I have to drive it back to my house still. I kept the F250 with me because I have been going to the mill and the parking permit is on that and not the Ranger. I may pick it up one night this week or just get it next Sunday on my way home from a wedding.

It feels so good to be back in the saddle lol

Went quad riding this weekend this past weekend and found out my boxer can run 25mph. And she did that all day long. I wish I had that kind of energy... It was nice to get the quad out. I haven't had a chance to do that in a while.

I went through my spare parts last night. I had a lot of little shit leftover.

I'll probably put some parts up for sale in the near future. I have a lot of extra shit I won't need.

I must say... you have a pretty nice "turd" there.

i was thinking about the problem with your shocks, because im having a similar problem due to my lift blocks that were in the rear. i have almost no droop when i jack it up on the bumper, maybe an inch, even without the shocks on myself. but what if you threw some adjustable bilsteins on your ranger with a shackle flip? i bet you might be able to get some serious travel with that setup as far as your stock leafs would go.

Thanks. I've put a lot of time and effort into it an without the help of numerous people, it would probably still be in pieces. I refer to it as a "turd" though because it is still sporting the unbelievably power 2.3L :icon_rofl: I had to put the posi in to stop breaking traction everywhere I went :icon_thumby:

I have tera flex shackles on it. Take a look at the first pages of this thread and you'll see them. I am going to look into the rear suspension later on. It will work fine for now. I have a few other things to look at, like the bump steer, the climbing that occurs when steering from a stand still, the slight pull to the right, and getting the e-fan installed. At least its home and I can work on it at night. :icon_cheers:

I did drive it to work today. I probably should have put a quieter muffler on it, but oh well... And I forgot how much fun it is to get it out on windy roads and really let the ponys run free :icon_thumby:

Thanks! It's not without its flaws, but it has all the parts I wanted for a good reliable truck. It should be very capable off road for its size, its comfortable, and rust shouldn't bother it too much any more.

After feeding the F250 for 15 months, it was so nice to fill the Ranger up for less than $50!

I have a short list of things to look at this week if I have time. I am getting ready for a quad trip this weekend and I'll be spending my work week at the coke works, which means longer days and commutes. I need to make sure the trailer connectors on the F250 are good working order for the weekend as well. I found corrosion on one of the terminals... thank you road salt.

I am going to install the E-fan, fix the oil pressure gauge, fix the connections to the dash indicators for 4x4 and 4 low, Sea Foam every oriface of the engine, change the oil after Sea Foaming, and possibly replace the PCV (I think it is sticking on startup, the engine idle drops really low until the temp comes up). I probably won't get to it all this week, but I'll see how it goes.

After driving it for a while, it pulls to the right still and the steering wheel is slow recenter. I believe that is a caster issue and may result in a little adjustment on the radius arm rod ends. Currently, the drivers side is 3 turns out and the passenger side is 5 turns out. I am going to use it for a little while and adjust accordingly. The alignment shop said that the toe and camber are in spec, but they would not touch the radius arms... I thought that was part of an alignment, but this just continues the pain I have with letting a shop touch my truck...
