Ok, here's the best reason I can give to persuade you to go with something other than a twist grip, you don't really want to be grabbing the throttle every time you shift regardless of what you're doing, do you? Like just driving down the road or such?

Either way though, it is you that is building it, I just want you to see it from as many angles as possible, so you don't regret a decision after putting time and money into it

Oh and I got some seat time in the truck making some noises and banging some gears playing with shifter location and height.

I think this will be just about where it ends up.

I was playing around with the idea of using a bike brake lever for a hand throttle.

I have a friend with an fj60 that runs almost the same setup. His has a horizontal bike lever instead of vertical. I've asked him about and said that of all the wheeling he's done over the years he used it once. It could come in handy and isn't a bad idea but your current setup seems to be the most common. How well it works is all up to opinion, and since it's your project it should work best for you.

all this talk about hand throttles made me go out and do one on my samurai. i just tapped into all the stock cruise controll stuff as it didnt have the linkages for it but had all the provisions for it.

i was looking one up on a 4.0 and it looks like you can use all the cruise controll things as well. its one of those things that you may never use but if you dont put it in then need it once you'll kick yourself over it

I probably won't use it as much as I NEEDED it in the ranger. With the doubler im not going to give it so much throttle like I had to with 36's and 4:10's in the truck.

But it will still be nice to have on occasion.

It'll definitely be nice. Not a 'wasted mod' by any means. There's more than one occasion when I wish I had one.

Things are going to be tight, the SD 60 is going to make it a pain in the ass. But I'll figure it out.

Wheelbase is going to a lot longer then I expected, looks like at a minimum 123"-125".

Looks like you moved it forward quite a bit. How much did it go, 6 inches? Mine ended up at 5 inches forward. I'm sitting at 131" right now, but I haven't moved the rear up yet....

You'll like the approach, but turns are gonna suck. I didn't move mine. I think Greg moved his like an inch or two, but I plan to push the rear back.

Front is 5.5 forward, rear is going to end up around 6" back

My front is 2" forward but 111" WB. Went wheeling with 2 126" WB 4 door toyotas a few weeks ago and they didn't have any problems.

mine is 4" forward....making me 130".....

but, as soon as I pick up my doubler I am going to make both front and rear driveshafts the same length so I only need 1 spare.....so I will soon see how much I can shorten mine.....
