when it comes to 4x4, I ain't the smartest cookie, but hooking that shock to the dif cover looks like a problem, but all in all the rest looks good to me, but then again, I ain't the smartest redneck in the hills of east Tennessee.

Probably a hydro assit ram, and mounting them to the diff cover isn't unheard of. It seems like it would work the cover loose over time, but I've yet to hear anyone mention that happening.

Yea I have seen plenty of people do that, I think thats how I am going to mount mine unless I use a double ended ram

Mine may end up mounted off the cover but I can't be for sure yet.

I'm hoping to get back to work on it next week, I've spent the last week trying to clean and re arrange the garage so I have more room to work and so I can do some wiring for a few more 110 and 220 receptacles. I'm a bit of a pack rat so I promise it's no easy job, one would be suprised how much random junk I can squeeze into a 30x40

Should be worth it when it's done though.

why wouldn't you just mount it to the housing or the shock tube?

also, the second pic shows ford parts being used on the build

i see a problem

well it looks like the tube adapter to the rod end on the pitman arm is not welded to the DOM tube.

Where it fits is where it fits, I don't know where it's going yet as I've never even slid the axle under it yet. But if that's the way it works out then so be it. Those 10 bolts would hold it no problem with a decent aftermarket cover... Mine is 3/8's thick.

hmm, still seems to me that if you wanted to mount it without it being on a removable part, it could be mounted that way... personal opinion though

I would/will mount mine on the diff cover aswell.

let me try to explain my train of thinking... first, is there any disagreement that the diff cover is not the strongest point to mount it to? (i'm not asking if it is strong ENOUGH, i'm asking if there is a stronger place on there to mount it to) regardless if it's a stock or aftermarket cover... so if there is a stronger place to mount it to, why would you not want to mount it to that stronger place, if all it means is moving it an inch or so?

i think a big part od why they do it is because one its easy. and two it makes the ram more parallel with the tie rod. and because the diff cover covers such a large surface area it probally is actually stronger then building a big mount out off the axle tube
