I've decided after 5 years of ownership that the Ranger will be my dedicated wheeler. I now have a full size truck I use as my DD currently, but will make that my camper truck (I'll have another thread on that later, or you can check out the build here), as well as a little Subaru that is going to replace the Chev as my DD ASAP.
First off of course was to get the Ranger to run. For those that don't remember (it has been a long time since I posted here....) the Ranger broke down in Levanworth, WA on my way to Centralia, WA for a Ranger meet! It sat for almost three years while I worked and worked, then I rebuilt it last year where it crapped out again and I finally rebuilt it again this last weekend. I don't feel like posting all those details so I will stick to the basics:
As of now, all the gaskets have been replaced with the heads being refurbished and a new exhaust valve installed on the drivers side. New lifters and a push rod were installed and it now awaits a full service on most of it's lubes. Check engine light is one due to a disconnected O2 sensor, and I literally just replaced the VSS sensor located at the rear drive shaft flange of the transmission. Wiring for my trailer harness was repaired, and a coat of Durabak bed liner was put down in the bed, but will be getting a new color as soon as the funds arrive.
Future plans include a suspension lift (whether a full kit or a home brewed lift) to accomadate 33's, custom front bumper with recovery points, a 5 speed manual with a manual t-case, and that's it. I don't plan on getting too fancy because it is a 20 year old truck with a lot of miles that I plan on beating on. Some may say that it looks too good to do such things, but if you were up close to it you would see why it doesn't bother me much.
Anyway, I plan on posting more pictures as the project continues, and I will probably post questions here or in their appropriate sections depending on how urgent they are. Any feedback is appreciated and welcome, whether negative or positive and as always, TREAD LIGHTLY! Here's a pic of the truck as it sits now:
