Project black betty(aka money pit)

The doors im putting on, like I said nothing special, are the type that have the little tri-angle window on them, basiclly what broncho 2 have but I got them off a ranger. They need a little more body work to them. Right now the weather isnt agreeing with me and I can get the wiring done on my truck (rain). Another thing that slowed me down was my dads PS pump high pressure line blew off and man what a mess it made, but got that fixed.

i have those. one of the little triangles are busted so i hope i can get one! haha i could always have one custom made if necessary

Nice. Get pics. when you can.

I've read about the 74 cherokee "deal" and all I can think of is this might be a loss battle with it. I've ever seen a ranger with a passenger side drop or heard of one being put under one. All I can think of is it would take a lot of work to make it happen. The only thing I can think of, and this is a crazy idea doubt it would work, you flip the axle over so it is a driverside drop but then it will want to go in reverse I think) and if so then you would have to take the axle tubes off, flip the gear housing and re-attach the axle tube back on and mabey it would work.

But the second I read that you said 79 cherokee I knew you were going to run into this problem.

So is this thread about the black truck or your blue truck?

black truck dude. black truck. im pretty sure seeing as its passenger drop im holding off and gettin the body work done. jeep is 300, body is 400 and body needs to be done before SAS but it seemed like too good a deal to pass up. i did lotsa homework and it appears passenger side diff on ranger has been done, but not without severe mods to t-case(to make it passenger drop) and new exhaust (expansive!)

Same with my truck, body work first unless I get all the stuff for the SAS first.

Wonder if it would be cheaper to mod. the truck for a passenger side drop because of the cheap price of the cherokee then find an axle with driver side drop.

I'll tell you now your ranger would look sicker with a passenger side drop, in my opinion.

ya cause then people would look. but just ranger fans!

chevy's have pass. side drop t case... sbc swap? sorry didn't mean to swear unnecessarily but the thought passed. i should go hit my head against a wall and beat the stupid outta me. but at least id have one friend. black widow haha

ok finally actually gonna do something to it. goin out to the farm where its at (half the reason i dont get anything done, and have jack all for pics) and first take pics for the safety so i can get it on the road, and also pick up the driveshaft so i can have 4x4. pics tonight if its not too dark...

I just relized something.... why is your 4x4 only FWD. Is it even safe to only have the front tires drive on a 4x4? I might have to try that and see if it works.

i highway drove it like that on shat steering and bald tires. call me dumb but she made it. i brought the driveshaft back today to try and get it all set up but im waiting on photobucket cause im being a pic hor tonight

Oh and about the passenger side drop, my brother-in-law has a seggestion, divorced transfer case. Ford did it to f-150'ss i'm told a suzuki did it to the sameri. That might be a solution.

im in no rush for the SAS. especially since i looked into it and as far as i know the d44's could have a cad too. in which case i shoulda just bought the dodge axle.if it can handle a half ton i dont think a lightly wheeled ranger is gonna trash it. still an option i think. but narrowing is a PITA im prolly gonna pull d30's outta a jeep w/ no CAD and slap em under once its safetied. till then i gotta get the important crap done so i can tear into it. make it useless ya Know?

just a random pic. had to take pics for the safety so i figured id show ya it in decent quality for once, considering the camera is up and working again

the damage it was written off for
Project black betty(aka money pit)

an under the hood shot. also for the safety, need to clean up at least one wire under there.

comparing sizes. small shaft also has a short second piece but this will be eliminated by the one piece shaft from a 99. problem is the 99's shaft has conections for an 8.8 wheras mine is a 7.5

the dilema

Thats like the deluxe of rangers. It has everything. Except it doesn't have a 2.8, sorry about your luck. That trucks body is like in almost perfect condition. The wheel wheels on the bed are rotted out....yet. As for the huge dent, I'd ignore it for now. What was wrong with the original drive shaft? Does Black Betty have auto lockers on the front, I hate those.

One of the things I didn't like about the later rangers was the flag style mirrors ford put on.

As for the SAS, basicly your going to be doing the samething as me. D30, no CAD, and light wheeling. I think the only major part I need is Cherokee steering linkage but I think my rangers will work so I might have just about everything. One day in the way future I'll be putting an air locker in the front but thats a high dollar upgrade.

When we got my dads truck it had a pinched amp wire and it was also exposed on the inside of the truck plus it was hooked to the positve of the battery terminal but thankfully it had a fuse in it or else we would have had problems.

As for say Chevy, SBC, etc....thats not cussing, saying D***e is cussing and talking about it and Rangers being together is a sin unless its axles!!!

ok to clear things up, id love to ignore the dent, but until its fixed, i cannot register the truck, there for no drivey drivey. the wheel wells rust must also be fixed, as must the box corners. also, i dont want dodge axles either, i just want big tires. but then my truck will be slow and hard on gas so that may be postponed. i may just lift it for cheap and get 33's on it after the safety's done. i just have a hard time putting a locker and brand new brakes and tires under it then ripping them out to put a d30 under it. but yes, it is well equipped, pw,pdl, cruise, tilt, a/c 4x4, MANUAL HUBS little triangle windows, but... those mirrors suck. thats why im getting free big ones like are on my blue 2wd. i was soooo tempted to buy a 1998 dodge 2500 5.9 cummins 4x4, because i have DREAMED about a gen 1 6bt turbo 4x4. (omg i just came) and sheet i just cant afford the 1300 bucks, and the 2 or 3 years it would take to get together. but imagine a 450 horse ranger on 37's getting 40mpg. thats a lifelong vehicle. plus, if i was goin that far i'd buy a exploder and convert to crew cab. what the hell right?

ok as for pics of tonight...
took the u-joints out, wow. huge difference.
Project black betty(aka money pit)

also, i got paid today, so i bought enough castrol syntec to make 2 hungry 2-9's happy. only paid 25 bux a gallon for synthetic... mmmm
Project black betty(aka money pit)

and i got my hands dirty so that means tonight was a sucess. never even changed any oil sadly, its too dark. and im toooo tired. making cabinets is gruelling work oddly enough. i found framing left me with more energy. prolly cause now im frustrated all day tryin to make everything perfect, whereas framing is "awe its within a quarter... foot"
haha
yesterday workin on my 4x4 i got a vid of 0-60 with my 2wd 2-9. its weird, every other 2-9 i've owned has nothing on this one... this one is peppy!
http://s559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/jaymegriffiths/?action=view&current=randoms2034.flv

ok it was like 12-13 seconds 0-60mph. but my last ranger did 0-60mph in 48 seconds.. i think theres a youtube vid for that one...
