Project black betty(aka money pit)

Same situation until I can get my 2.3 motor sold, I can't get much done. But its great to talk and shoot the shit in the mean time.

im gettin good at it. where did that term originate? cause i've literally been so bored iv shot shit. cow pies in a pasture whil gopher hunting. waste of bullets but i didn't pay for them so target practice. haha i have some stupid thoughts wow.

I rarely get out an go shoot. The last time was to sight in my gun a year ago.

As for where the term come from, I have no clue.

haha i gopher hunt lots. i'd much rather hunt for deer. never went ast year. i'd like to go for bear, as deer meat isn't much to my taste. i like it but i like something different every once in a while. maybe elk, caribou, somethin i've never done? I'VE gotten mule and whitetail.

as far as progress, i did buy some mirrors and paint em, but didn't get too many pics as the camera died and i have no charger. frig. but i got 2

you can see the mirrors in this pic, flat blacked, but i couldn't find a passenger side one. found the bracket. these are off a bronco, not b2. cause its all they had. they are about 1.5 inches wider than the ranger ones but the same hieght. didn't think this would be a problem. the actual mirror itsself is the same.

however another ongoing project is the 68 roadrunner relaxin in our shop, while it slowly gets back together piece by piece? cause its cool. couldn't take pics cause camera died, or i woulda snapped one of the 428 CJ thats goin in the elenor project thats also in line for my dad, who is a full time flooring installer, owning his own business and restoring cars on the side for a guy named george cobb, who i now work for making cabinets. its a small world. i may also get pics of the two 70 challenger's he owns, one is a rt or something and the other is a T/A 6 pack car. 6 pac T/A is hot pink and the other is lime green. why? cause he can. and we also finished last year a 1970 mach 1 351 cleveland 4 speed top loader that we are looking for a tranny for due to bearings being whiped in this one. more pics to come, maybe ill try and steal the 428 for the 2wd haha. i wish.

Must be nice being able to work on those vehicles. I love muscle cars. As for hunting all we really have is white tail deer. everything else isnt worth going for. Must be nice to be able to hunt a variety of animals.

As for the mirrors....NICE. I think thats what i'm going to do too. I have some metal etching primer and some flat black spray paint so thats going to be on the to do list. The chrome on mine are all scratched up and not worth looking at. I know my dads truck would look better with flat black mirrosr might run the thought past him.

we have to drive a couple hours but ya hunting has a few variety's around here. i like the mirrors but the one i have is a little dented, just kinda rough, im still lookin for a good pair. i'd like to buy some new chrome ones if i can. also, its a big priveledge working on these cars, they're truly amazing. once the camera's charged ill snap more pics for those who apreciate them.:icon_thumby:

ok. so being as i had a hot date, i didn't get time to upload pics til now.

here dey come i whored the camera tonight!
got both sides done and painted numerous coats. got 2 ranger ones for free but im usin the f-150 brackets, they are a little wider. mirror size is identicle. and they were free. yay!

my mum posin in front of my prject shmuck its fun but i think it may need carb work or something cause it only runs for about a minute at a time then dies, than restarts imediately, then a minute later dies and repeat.
Project black betty(aka money pit)

more of the 68 plymouth roadrunner. i may have mistakenly called it a challenger. (ooops) but ya its a 68 plymouth roadrunner, 340 4 barrel. 4 speed. gettin done slowly but surely. maybe next project ill follow!(and keep updated pics!)

i wish. its goin in our elenor clone. but maybe if i sabatauge elanor, the engine will become available!!! hmmmmm......

ok. thanks to someones hounding (hint hint) i actually got off my ass today. what i did was truly phenomenal. that was, to get my dad to do the same! WOW!
alright. since i hate uploading pics and its already 1130, heres the downlow. we finally figured out what the guy on the explorer tech thinger was talkin about, thx to my dad, and we used his technique for a flawless install!

first, i cut a piece of masking tape at exactly 34 mm. we rotated the engine to tdc compression stroke cylinder#1, by removing the valve cover. (we already had a new gasket so this was all done in a night) we put the tape on the crank pulley on the front of the engine so the piece of tape went 34 mm's from the 0* line marked, on the passenger side of the engine. i have pics, im submitting them in the "submit info for the tech section" thread.
then, we turned the crank clockwise until the needle that reads advancement is pointing to precisely the far edge of the tape, therefor 34mm from the 0 line, aka,26* as specified by the instructions givin to us by the ford dealership master mechanic (who was quite helpful, and knew exactly what we were talkin about)
then, we turned the sensors shaft w/ the hylicel gears so the c shaped mechanism inside, the TOP EDGElines up with the advanced mark on the clear sight glass on top. this is done so that as you insert the gear into the block, the hylicel gear makes the c line up with the second line, which is 180* to the plug inserted. once installed in the block, the sensor can be turned to adjust, and should be set so the edge lines up with the mark that is 180* to the plug. the whole assembly should then be almost if not exaclty perpendicular to the flywheel/back of the block. tighten the hold down clamp and make sure that the c stays on the mark it is supposed to line up on.
you are almost done. now simply rotate the engine over twice, and if the sensor c returns to the line 180* to the plug, you are set!

got the @#$%&* sensor in. easier than i thought it would be. hope it all works out.
Project black betty(aka money pit)

fixed this line, it was no good
Project black betty(aka money pit)

throwin the valve cover back on!
Project black betty(aka money pit)

the engine together!!!
Project black betty(aka money pit)

engine bein dropped in. kinda reverse order but STFU
Project black betty(aka money pit)

givin us trouble, this was the first attempt turns out ford drills holes in the flywheel for balancing, but in their infinite wisdom, drill them in line with the torque converter boltd. so we;re tryin to force a fricken 1/4" stud through a 1/8" hole, we get frustrated before i notice, hey this holes too small. and then my dad thinks, o right, theres smaller holes drilled in the flywheel for balancing. 2 minutes later, viala. she clunked together and ready for the next step. so thats an adventure we saved for another day cause we were tired from fighting with it, and i was tired from goin shopping with the lady friend.

Glad to see the sploder is getting done. As for that Jeep I think you need to take Dana's Dana 30 from under it and put it under Black Betty. Just a thought. Then put that 428 in it too. Then you have truck!!!!!!

Keep up the good work.

As for the first vehicle my dad owned, It was a 75 ford Granada that was Sky Blue and got 6 miles to the gallon. It had problems he bought it used in 79 when he was 16. Chick magnet it wasn't.

haha my dad bought his 70 mach 1 when he was 16 for 5498 bux brand shpankin new. he had been working for almost a year by then, makin 6 bux an hour at coca cola so it WAS a chick magnet. as for the jeep, its a 2wd. talk about the most useless vehicle on the face of the earth. im def. glad the stupid explorer is gettin done too. hopefully it may turn into my DD. still not sure. perhaps a family vehicle.

A 2WD SUV??? Thats about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Thats like a one legged man in an ass kicking competition. Sell the sploder to get your truck mods done. My dad said that it is stupid that the dent on Black Betty is the reason it cant rive. He said to put a newer bed on it or pull the dent out of it.

Hopefully I can get my leaves for my SAS to my house soon. Major things came up and dont know when I can get them ( my sister is having her first child sooner then expected, I'm going to be an uncle). So I'm going to be out at their house for a few days to take care of her dog but keep up work on BB.

My dad said today that he likes the black mirror look and is going to be doing that. They are the only things on the truck right now that shine.

As for my first vehicle, I want to say its my Ranger but I had a 1974 Ford Maverick that was given to me but a long story short it will be in a demolition derby next year. Safe to say it wasn't a chick magent either. It was Grabber green, AKA baby poop green. The original motor was blown up out of it and another was put in it but by then the car wasnt worth anything.

actually, thats a commanche. so its ugly, junk powered, and useless. its a giant paper weight. as for the explorer, i could use the extra thousand bux, but since my dad technically owns it, and did the engine pulling, he should get at least half. so if we get 2500 ill end up with a thousand, as we've got 500 into er.

and if i get a thousand, she's goin in my savings. but i dunno if i wanna 4x4 for the winter... sigh. maybe ill just make due, as long as i stay outta feilds like last year i should have no probs using my 2wd. ( i have AMAZING winter tires) and yet i've been stuck plenty. but i could have like 12 grand by next summer for a down payment on a new stang and dirt bike, AND boat. so i'd be livin it up. but FRIG girls are expensive. jee wiz
