Project 4x4 Commuter Mazda

Hey I was reading in another thread that your kevlars seem stiff. Mine are a different size than yours, but on the road I air up 25psi front and 28psi rear. I got those from chalking the tires and spending about 30 min. In a parking lot. Offroad I go 12 front and 15 rear and they flex over rocks extremely well.

Ill try that and see how they ride.

They did great this weekend wheeling. Very happy on that aspect. However they didnt balance very well and vibrate pretty bad at the speed limit. Need to take them back to be re balanced.

Had fun wheeling, truck did excellent and walked up everything. No really gnarly parts but all cycles well without contact (besides corners of front fenders).

Need to get crackin on sliders and a winch mount...

First wave of pictures, ones I took. My friend who was with me has more, will put them up when I get them

Yeah it is, WFO built it apparently

I might make some extra cash from selling my old KM2's today. If thats the case help me decide and prioritize what I should spend it on. I have 2 trips planned. One of which will be Fordyce or Rubicon (gnarly trails).

Should I do rock sliders (would eat most of the $) & have a little left over for misc stuff/fuel/savings.

or

FOA, Bilstein, King, Fox air bumpstops & straps (would use essentially all the $).

Both I really need to do. Bumps/straps would come in really handy for the harder trails so I don't damage anyhting. Sliders too tho to protect my rocker panels (want to keep the S/M faily clean on this rig, i don't believe in totally trashing a vehicle).

I feel like I should do the sliders, and get by without dialing in the suspension, but I know I'm gonna kick myself no matter which option I choose when something gets damaged.

I say sliders first

Sliders first. I've got spring hangers still if you need them. I'll be up there at ruffstuff on Friday and can drop them off.

Bumpstops 0

Sliders 2

I'm worried tho I won't have a chunk of cash like this again for a long while, which is what I would need to do legit bumpstops

FOAs are pretty cheap maybe I can swing both...

Do simple sliders for now and then add to them later when the cash starts flowing. This way you can do both.

Anybody remember when I was building the 31 spline 8.8 and I used RuffStuff leaf spring perches? And I cut one end of them off? I found a use for that end I cut off.....perfect for bumpstop strike pads!

Also, catch a glimpse of my new commuter in the background...

I blew the whole wad I made on the tires, got FOA bumpstops and 4xinnovation Tacoma sliders on the way (will weld to my old frame mounts). Hopefully this crap gets here and I have time to put it on before my trip on October 4-5

IMO, I would think you should do some fender trimming before you hit Rubicon. I destroyed my 35's like 4 days after I got them when I went to Fordyce. Pissed me off to no end...

Keep in mind Fordyce is a lot gnarlier than Rubicon tho. And rubicon has bypass for all the hard obstacles.

But very true and good point. I strapped it pretty conservative and will bump it the same or maybe even more for Rubicon. Will be easy to change later with the pinch bolts on the bumpstop cans. Hopefully that will keep the tires mostly out of the fenders. It may not be that bad now with the straps on, I need to go find a place to test it out. If it is still pretty bad I may just rock no fenders or take my uncles jeep.
